"Scribblenauts is absurdly ambitious. Almost unbelievably so, in fact. It may look like a fairly standard puzzle-platformer, but it has a major twist: the player can conjure up any item they wish, simply by writing the object's name on the touchscreen. Again, for emphasis: any item.

But ... isn't that sort of, well, impossible? MTV's Stephen Totilo had his suspicions, so rang game designer Jeremiah Slaczka with a list of obscure items to test the veracity of 5th Cell's claims. Would we be able to summon cake mix, Totilo queried. Yep. How about an hourglass? You bet. Pushpins? A briefcase? Lint? Yes, yes, and yes.

Slackza does warn us not to expect "some eastern mountain Bolivian dish," (sorry, fans of Charque de llama), and has already ruled out licensed products or vulgar terms. Aside from those understandable exclusions, however, Scribblenauts really does seem to match the hype; it passed the Totilo test, at least!"

The backgrounds could have been a little better, it looks like as if it was drawn with paint, and they don't take THAT much space :/

I think they were created like that to keep the game under the "scribble" feel. It IS called Scribblenauts, after all. It's not called "Wow, amazing background-nauts"

The game art is being kept as simple as possible.. so more objects can be stored in the game.

The biggest problem here is that they're promising "everything".. so, the first thing every reviewer will do when they get the game will be write the most absurd stuff so they can complain [IMG]

Hope 5th Cell can deliver what they're promising..

To be fair, it's not like this is some evil journalist plot, that's exactly what actual gamers will be doing when they play it, too.

Well, supposedly they took a look through a dictionary and included all the non-vulgar/copyrighted terms they saw. It also has some really cool OOP item hierarchy. It's pretty badass.
