Hacking SaveMiiFrii

I have searched, I understand what the SaveMii dongle does, but what exactly does SaveMiiFrii do? I know you connect a gamecube controller to port 4 and press all directions of the D-pad at the same time. What else is required?

Nothing else is required it does the exact same thing as a savemii. this way just wasn't discovered/made public until after savemii was released

It does require a mod-chip to recover from banner bricks but whats funny is if you have a mod-chip theres no need for it. Autoboot Disc

So you do need a modchip for this to work. Im just curious because I have a soft mod NTSC wii version 3.3U. So this technique to fix a bricked wii wouldnt work for me?
