Thanks - the thoughts of having to buy a new wii were not great.

Next step check the Starfall installation ... and put that "health and safety screen" back on

good luck wiicrazy and as I say ... thanks for the help (and curses to the ***** who put that link to the crappy MPlayer channel on here).

I unbricked too

I hadn't tested much discs with wiikey2, it seems at the modder's place it didn't boot because of the region stuff...

Since my wiikey2 chip's region was pal, using pal autoboot hbc disc succeeded, previously I had tried ntsc wad manager disc at the modder's place...

Even savemii came handy as I didn't fiddled through the gamecube controller stuff

Now I hope my other drive that burned and emitted smell is not defected...

I got two wiis now

ps: and sorry marcan... as it seems the culprit was my shitty d2c pro gw 601 modchip afterall....

Strange thing, when I had tried to close the NTSC-J jumper on my bricked wii's modchip with a small wire and powered on... there was a sudden smoke came out somewhere with a burn smell... I had powered down the thing and thought either disc drive or the modchip got defective...

Now after unbricking the thing put that thought to be burned drive in place and voila... it reads copies... wifi / bluetooth no problem whatsoever...

It came as double surprise

thinking about my fix .... if the apploader ISO works does that mean it was able to autoboot whilst 'bricked' after all ? If so then why didn't either the autoboot WADmanager or autoboot recovery work ?

Or does apploader ISO not actually do an autoboot ?

No, I don't think they implemented the apploader hack, if it was the case then they would have named the file accordingly and at least gave some hints...
About the autoboot discs failing... dunno it's certain that either the original sources were bad or the burns... more likely first

the other thing I noticed (when removing the 'health and safety' starfall hack) was that I hadn't actually installed the 'y button' and 'rescue menu' hack at all ... so that explains why that method didn't work
