Don't really know what you meant by Weapon customisation because you can either upgrade your weapon in the shop by merging it with other weapons or items giving it new skills and increase skills points.
Or are you talking about your character using different type of weapons instead of your normal starter weapon.. I haven't unlock the different type of weapons your character can use yet.

i assume he's talking about merging and that's the only type of weopon customisatio im aware of

As I understand it, each weapon has some base stats that it increases, for instance Attack and Spirit.
Now, if you upgrade it using other weapons, then the attack and spirit stats can increase even higher, but it will never gain additional stats.

So the trick seems to be finding a weapon that has good stats that you want, and then work on upgrading it.
But it seems that you find better and better weapons as you advance in the game, so I doubt that the whole upgrade thing is terribly important until late in the game.

When you get a new weapon at the end of a stage it will be level 1 and have some stat bonuses attached.
Weapons from earlier stages will only have 1 or 2 bonuses attached. Ones you get later in the game may have more to start with. The maximum number of stat bonuses a weapon can have is 6.

A weapon can be upgraded by sythesising another weapon or item with it. The other weapon or item used is destroyed in the process, but points are added to the bonuses on the weapon you are upgrading.
Every time you upgrade a weapon its level is increased by 1.
Once a weapon reaches level 10 it cannot be upgraded any more.

Synthesising weapons of higher levels adds more points by default and synthesising ones with more points in bonuses that match those in the target weapon also add more points than otherwise.

Synthesising items with bonuses that match those of the weapon add points to those bonuses.
Synthesising items that have special properties in boxes add empty bonus slots to the weapon.
If a weapon has empty bonus slots, you can fill them by synthesising items that have the bonuses you want to add to the weapon.

I have been doing some research to try to figure out exactly how weapon uppgrading works numerically so I can plan how to efficiently create the best weapons.

This is what I have uncovered so far:

Level of weapon being synthesised has an effect on the increase of stats in the target weapon.
Level 1 = +1
Level 2 = +2
Level 3 = +2
Level 4 = +3
Level 5 = +3
Level 6 = +4
Level 7 = +4
Level 8 = +5
Level 9 = +5
Level 10 = +6

Strength of matching stat bonus in weapon being synthesised adds extra on top of Weapon Level Effect.
19 = +1 (+3 from a level 3)
31 = +2 (+8 from a level 10)
34 = +3 (+9 from a level 10)
35 = +4 (+7 from a level 4)
35 = +3 (+6 from a level 4)
Strange, these numbers aren't consistent. There must be another factor in action here.

Maybe it has something to do with the target weapon's level or stat strength as well?

Seems like the lower the stat in the target weapon, the more it gets increased by synthesising a weapon with a high matching stat.



Synthesising an item will yeild a basic +1 to all stats just like synthesising a level 1 weapon, but matching stats give different increases from items than from weapons.
10 = +1
15 = +2
30 = +5


So to make a nice strong weapon it would be best to always synthesise level 10 weapons into it.
Starting from a level 1 weapon you could do that 9 times.
If the level 10 weapons you were feeding it didn't have any stats that matched the weapon being upgraded then you would still get +6 to all its stats each time, 9 times 6 is 54, so you would end up with +54 to all the stats it started with.

It just changes the stats.
Each character has 4 basic weapon types. Normal, Speed, Power and 'the 4th weapon'.
Upgrading a weapon leaves its appearance, name and type intact and only increases its level and its stat bonuses.

Among "normal" "speed" and "power", are they all supposed to be pretty equal, or is the power weapon generally the best? I honestly cant tell a difference in the attack speed with them.

I think there's meant to be a difference in attack speed, but I haven't noticed it either. I tend to use the power weapons because they have a visible numerical superiority.

hm so far i have used power and speed weapons
dont know if am wrong but speed weapons tend to have more speed stats and a bit of more attack speed than the power weapons
on the other hand the power weapons tend to havae more attack than the speed weapons

p.s. as for range stat on a weapon that i use with 65 range on it and its pretty neat xD
when you use a musou attack if you have a wide range well you can kill enemies that cover the whole screen.
