Hmm, I just checked out his blog too. He says that he took it down because he was reprimanded by M3Flash.jp. They told him that his hack was in violation of the Unfair Competition Prevention Law, so he had no choice but to comply and take it down or risk legal action from them.
Makes me wonder how many notices of the "Unfair Competition Prevention Law" M3 has ignored from the likes of Datel, Nintendo, and any game developers that they have expressly updated their core software to support. In fact, I see nothing in that translated law paper that would even apply to the scripts and information Rudolph shared on his site - it's not like he is offering a ready made download that has any sort of infringing content where it comes to "competition." It's certainly not like they are distributing the source revisions to the GPL'd code portions that have been used in sakura. And it's definitely not like they haven't used information from such developers themselves to improve their products.

I'd think this about covers it. Seems much more like scare tactics that worked, to me - Rudolph being the nice fellow he has always been just bowed to the notice (out of his depth? I think not.)

I doubt the M3 team would follow up the threat with an actual lawsuit. They are kinda counting on Rudolph's co-operation, really. The argument might hold water in the court, since the "official" (the one available from the Sakura site) version doesn't run roms, so they could sue him on violating their rights on a media player programme on the DS. The problem is that a lawsuit would bring the M3 Real into the limelight and into Nintendo's and Datel's attention, and they certainly won't be happy bunnies.

Then why is it I always hear of Nintendo's crackdowns on R4s, but not other flashcarts? Seems like they always go for the biggest, most well-known ones. My point is that if the Real gain awareness though court trials it'll be a matter of time till Nintendo target it next.

Does it work on the DS-X? D:

I just tested it. Yes it does. Even after I remove the homebrew only limitation though, it fails to load commercial roms, but it loads homebrew perfectly. MP3 player works. I do not have any video files to test this with though. It runs MUCH faster than the DSX's firmware does too, though I still prefer the DS-X interface, it would be nice to have a fast loading option that the sakura provides.

If the sakura could load commercial games (not for pirating, for hacking), and read the DS-X save format, I would pay for licensing to the DS-X. Well done M3 team.

Keep in mind, all homebrew and applications must be dldi patched with this to the DS-X, including the resulting sakura firmware nds file that is generated and the ones in the system folder.

Just be happy that they chose R4 as a scapegoat instead of a much better flashkart.

Yeah, I realise that. And I think the M3 team realises that too so they should know better than drawing too much attention to themselves with a lawsuit.

to get homebrew to launch with Sakura, rename a copy of your flashcards dldi to "dldibody.bin" and replace the one that comes with m3Sakura. Hombrew will launch, commercial roms wont.

New Updates Once Again!

We have make most of GPSFS fomat maps, which work in "MapThis" on PSP, compatible with our application. That is to say, there is no need for us to worry about maps.

Besides, the application now runs on a much more stable and quick state after rewriting some codes. Due to some inspiration from Moonshell, we are trying some new ideas. For example, Multi-windows system which makes the application really cool, plug-ins skins and transparent windows.

"Back to Menu" Function is another update. By using it, you can easily back to menu and run any other application without turn off the DS Lite.

At last, our coders are also working on the corresponding input methods for Asian users.

Ok, i've been looknig through their forums.
From what i can gather they are producing a piece of software compatible with lots of flash carts. Now that m3 have teamed up with them they have made two different releases. One called ranger and one called something else.

At the moment it is downloadable as a free software product and needs to be dldi patched. Works for ak2, m3real and some others (NOT G6 YET). I suppose it isn't fully functional since it has no hardware antenna, but they have a homemade slot 2 looking device which can link to the pc with a usb 2.0 cable.

from their website on the forum said:
The initial design of PCB for GPS navigation on NDS has been done properly, including both the external and built-in GPS antenna, Mini-USB port and 32MB SDRAM memory. As a result of these new components, the GPS signal in the recent tests is much more stronger now. On the other hand, the mini-USB port largely expands the use of this device. After connecting to the Computer by Mini USB Port, it can easily work with those existed applications.

Here's the download and setup info from their website:

RangerDS0_54.zip

Prepare:
#1 An usable Nintendo-DS
#2 A guy who knows how to operate #1
#3 A flash card (one of AK2, EZ series, M3 series, R4)
#4 A correct DLDI path from http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/
#5 What else?

Install:
Copy /Ranger/ to your card(like F:\Ranger\ or tf0:/Ranger/)
Copy patched Ranger.nds to your card(like F:\Ranger.nds or tf0:/Ranger.nds)

make sure DLDI has been patched, or you'll got the 'FAT fail safe' version
biggrin.gif

if you build your own map, make sure DO NOT use UTF on .ini file, save as ANSI.

known problems:
1. DLDI didn't work on G6DSREAL
2. Memory overflow when loading GIF bigger than 1600x1600(not happen in Ranger mode)

I think the DLDI doesn't work on the g6 because of a unknown limit (similar to the g6 dldi problem with sakura). I doubt it works for the n5 or for the ak rpg (nand memory mode)

Anywayz thats enough for now.... I'll try to find out more information soon.

It was released with no ROM support. They have nothing to fear in my opinion. Handheldsources? WTF is that? Doesn't have any connections to the Sakura team... it's just a mirrors site.

Whoever said M3 sucks, you officially suck dick.

it's one of their "official" mirrored mirrors.
for m3real downloads m3adapter.com links you to dsgogogo.com
for firmwares dsgogogo links you to handheldsources and linfox.

Keep cool i was just kidding ... I just hate that they never release an official dldi for my old G6 lite ... Thanks God Viruseb did it ... the real support is on Chinese GBalpha but people are complaining also about delay ^^

HHS is always dying anyway ( it was also for years the only official english link mentionned on http://www.g6flash.com/download.htm or here ) ... Btw there is now 4 official links : 2 are down, one is outdated ( with just one old file ) and the only real one is linfoxdomain.com

Peace now and thanks for sharing your hard work guys ;-)

I'm think I'm the only one that didn't get it but will ask before doing something dumb...

Nobody said one thing about installing M3 Sakura on M3 DS Simply. I know it may be another R4 clone but did M3 Team take Simply on consideration creating Sakura?

Anyone tried? Hacking or not? Is it worth (duh...)?

EDIT: Oh, sorry... there's a full topic about this here...

Doesn't the new version support Roms.
Ah well...
This hack is really unfair.
Actually it can. http://narutrans.freehostia.com/startnds.ext should be put in the system folder. However, If you listened to me, you need to DLDI patch the applications that come with sakura system folder (all the .nds files like moonshell).

Just head over to http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/ and grab a driver, like for the DS-Xtreme (but any 16k DLDI will work if its available for your flash card), and patch them as well as the resulting .nds file from the make application. Note that you can NOT use a 64k cluster most of you DS-Xtreme users are running.

You will see though that sakura will attempt to launch your ROM file... but it shouldn't launch. I think this is in part because of how different the flash cards work and have different hardware to handle. If you have a DS-Xtreme, you can try other firmware versions because these will change your FPGA settings. I have only tried 1.1.3.

Regardless, no one should use this to boot commercial roms anyway, unless you own a Sakura. Chances are your flash cart would have better compatibility anyway, it would be faster to launch directly, more features and have less limitations. Most of the great features come from the way the application interfaces with the card itself.

The way I see this is, the Sakura is beautiful homebrew launchpad for a neglected card. The ONLY excuse you would need to launch nds roms via Sakura firmware is for cheating. Why? Because users like the DS-Xtreme user base do not have built in cheating.

Again, I would be honored if the M3 team decided to license out this software for full on use on the DS-Xtreme. It certainly is much cheaper than buying a new card and many of the features it offers are fantastic. If someone rewrote our FPGA, we could just program our DS-Xtremes into M3s with internal memory. I and I'm sure many other users would love to buy a license to run this fully on our hardware.

I also haven't figured out how to change the skins. I thought there'd be an option for it in the settings menu, but I can't find it.

just go to /SYSTEM/Skins and open a skin-file, it'll be applied right away.
