I got an error "stage1.bin doesn't exist or exceeds max size",what's that mean?

I actually got the same error today doing my own n3ds, haven't figured it out yet.

Figured my issue out, missed a step and didn't have the 2 "payload_input" files in the a9lh folder.

The error saved your consoles, just saying :)

And I thank you very much!! :D I would have kicked myself if I messed up, had a perfectly acceptable coolboot going on, even if boot rate was poor enough. Probably shouldn't be doing this while trying to entertain a 6 month old on my lap :glare:

so if you're doing a clean install with a N3ds without a9lh, you still need to downgrade and stuff to get the otp.bin? :C

Yup! It's just much safer now!
i just hated the whole dowgrade process.. I did the otp retrieval process really riskilly. I'm going to set it up on my girlfriend's N3ds for her and I just dont know if i want to waste like 5-8 hours backing up and downgrading...
unless there's a faster/safer way

It doesn't take that long anymore :P It'd probably take 1-2 hours at most now.

I half used this guide the first time. Is it changed at all?
It looks the exact same as i checked the last time i got the otp..
Depends on when you first installed A9LH.
I installed A9LH back when the original guide came out. I had to do everything manually and it took hours to do!
Now? Everything's pretty much done automatically for you. It shouldn't take that long.

I mean, when I did mine, all of the backing up, downgrading, and restoring backups took about 6-8 hours. Is it the same or should the whoooole process take about 1-2 hours like you said previously?

Did OTPHelper exist when you installed A9LH?
It didn't when I did it. OTPHelper reduces times by a lot! Especially on the n3DS.

You can already install A9LH on the o3DS in less than an hour.

So... if I am trying to install it first time where do I get all the stuff required? I am misunderstanding that you only need this but it asks for bins and OTP, no idea what's that
