Hacking Safe update to 4.2

I was on 3.2 and did the wii sports resort update to 3.4u
i have cios rev 15
can i update to 4.2 official?
do I need the safe updater?
can it brick?

u can use Nus Auto Downloader to upgrade to 4.2 easily
