Hi all,

I was doing some reading about getting Sam & Max Season 1 to work with USB Loader and have seen that it one of those games that is tricky to run (as a lot of the posts I have found are from last year).

I was wondering what the best way of getting the game to run through USB Loader (or config USB loader)?

Do you still need to install certain IOS's OR can you run it using a DOL (if so what do you need)?

I have a a softmodded Wii (English PAL) running 4.1 and cios rev 14 with the most updated USB loader.

Thanks!

The only loaders that are able to run the game at all are SoftChip and NeoGamma. And since the game is an IOS Reloading game without multiple .dols, you need a patched disc(!) or cioscorp and a disc.

Ah right, so nothing has changed then since last year

Can you download a patcher, patch the ISO and run it through neogamma? Anyone know where I can get the patcher (if it exits)?

Thanks

The app is called IOS Version patcher. And as mentioned everywhere related to softmodding, you need to patch the game to use IOS249(the cIOS).

Just tried it again using IOS 33, burnt the disc and played it using neogamma7 and it now resets the game when I pick an episode to play.

Am I doing something wrong here? I drag / drop the game ISO onto the IOSPatcher.exe, put in the IOS number in the command prompt, it says its been patched, I burn the game to disc and then run it in Neogamma7.

What am I doing wrong here??

Lol.

I did a new attempt on running the game from usb. It does an IOS Reload that indicates in 90% of cases that a .elf or .dol is loaded. Usually the boot process of something is: Load the IOS, the IOS loads the .dol. Anyways, i checked that the game does not load the main.dol again on selection an episode. I thought it might be possible it loads itself with some parameter. Then i looked inside the .ttarch files for .dols and .elfs, nothing, lots of music and whatever files, but no executable.

==>To run the game from usb, the ISO Reload would have to be patched out of the main.dol on running.

Based on what you understand about it, is it possible that patching it to use IOS222 and enabling the ISO Reload Block in Hermes cIOS would get it runnning off of usb? I intend to try, but haven't got there yet.

If the block IOS Reload function would work, then you won't need any patching. So patching to IOS222 would only make the game run on IOS222 when playing from disc.

Apologies guys, I didn't read / follow the posts correctly which lead me to mis-understanding what I needed to do.

Thanks for the advise and the sarcasm, I guess some folk forget what it was like back when they didn't know everything.

I'm very interested for this topic, searching internet for days and nothing happens, and now... tadaaaaa, something is moving!
Using same sistem as you, the_rhino_uk, so I wil appreciate very much if you help me with some hints about this.
Did you able to run the game after all advices in this thread, or not?
I can say that I'm not total noob, because I succeed in softmoding

Come on guys. The game is only £10 right now including shipping. The adventure genre is probably my favourite videogame genre, and it saddens me to see good adventure games sell poorly.

OK. With my little whining done, I have a question for WiiPower:
Can the IOS reload be patched out of the executables on the fly like you did with NSMBWii?
Would this also fix the games needing alt dol to run? I'm guessing no on this since a dol/elf switch mid-game would require the new dol/elf needing to be patched.
I think it is important to try and find a solution to this, especially if more new games comes with this IOS reload trickery.

Any update on Sam and Max and usb loaders

For me to run it from disc, i had to extract the main dol and fix the 001 error, then iso patcher to 249, it runs from the disc channel, and the different episodes work, but the from usb even with alt-dol

Seems like this and CSI are the only games that *won't* work from a USB drive. One would think Nintendo would catch on and make future games load the same way, the combination of this and newer Wiis not being able to play burn discs would kill off 90% of all software piracy.
