Seems like this and CSI are the only games that *won't* work from a USB drive. One would think Nintendo would catch on and make future games load the same way, the combination of this and newer Wiis not being able to play burn discs would kill off 90% of all software piracy.

What are you talking about?

1. alt .dol+ works fine for Sam & Max
2. There's an usb loader based on sneek that should play all IOS Reloading games
3. There are lots of other IOS Reloading games, like Red Steel 1, Metroid Prime Triology, FarCry ...

I found a way that works flawlessly for sam and max and other games like wii sports resort and metriod prime triolgy...
You need to download The d2x cios installer app that you run off the homebrew Chanel.

1. download d2x cios installer v3.1 from https://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios-installer/downloads/list
2. extract it and make sure that you put it in your apps folder just like any home brew app
3. run the app off homebrew
4. select iso 249 and base 56.
5 make sure it is d2x version 6 or higher and pick the highest number for the other version.
(if you do not have internet this will not work and you will need to download d2x and install it in a different method [sorry])
6. hit install and then load up your usb loader and make sure it is set to 249 for the iso and such

Alternatively if you do not use 249 to play your games for some strange reason you are able to do it with other ios... I just used 249 and I fixed this issue after about 20 min of internet searching and 10 min of actual work on the wii just sort of clicking around. There are also oodles of tutorials out there for this so please feel free to gallivant around.

I hope this helps

it's very old news that cIOS d2x v7 (and not v6!) fixed that issue.
But thanks for helping, maybe some users with old softmod who didn't use his wii for three year might find this thread useful.

New users have up to date softmod (d2x v10) and will not even know some games had issues in the past.

Before cIOS v7, there were another fix : using alternative dol loading method with a "jump to chapter" file to ask the user which chapter he wanted to load instead of the game title's menu.
but it's now a lot easier to just update the softmod.
