Last time I looked into this, when I was hacking my vWii, there wasn't a way to do this because the formatting was different. I think that was over a year ago at this point. So I have my Wii and GC backups running off my external and I just left the Wii U itself alone to play my disc games.

I was wondering if anything has changed? Some skimming in the forums makes it seem like there has been a lot of progress in the last year but I couldn't find anything directly pointing to this idea.

(and if this gets asked a lot, I apologize.)

Yup it's now possible to install Wii and gamecube backups to a "Wiiu formatted" hard drive now. That means your Wiiu game installs can now share the same storage device for your Wii and Gamecube backups. The ones you have on your FAT32 drive that you use for vWii is separate. You'd need to create Wii VC injects and install them to the Wiiu (Internal or external storage) using the iso's/.wbfs files from your FAT32 drive.

Essentially vWii isn't needed anymore. You can launch these wii and gamecube games from the wiiu home menu. It even saves in the same usual locations as it normally would. Some games can even be played with the gamepad as a controller. Including all gamecube games and some wii games that have classic controller support.
Vwii doesn't need to be hacked at all or ever launched for this to be achieved. It's so muhc more convenient playing wii and gamecube games now. Though you need to enable CFW before launching these wii and gamecube games each time you want to play them.

This is the script you can use to make Wii and gamecube injects: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wiivc-injector-script-gc-wii-homebrew-support.483577/
Once created, it needs to be placed on your SD card then installed (To either the system storage or external hard drive)

nope. still not possible i'm afraid. however, if you search for one of my older posts i describe a setup with UStealth i use that uses 2 external powered hard drives, one for all my Wii and GC backups, the other for all my WiiU stuff, all of which can be accessed at any time with no further config. so, no, can't have everything on one disk but there are better alternatives anyway if you want up to 4gig of content to be accessible

oh yeah, VC is a possibility. oops.. forgot that as i don't like to use up 300 title limit with VC but yes, that is certainly another option.

But Wii and Gamecube games are a lot more than just "VC" just because they use Wii VC as a base for injections. It essentially brings vWii content over to Wiiu and removes the need to ever launch vWii. Unless maybe you have 1,000 games used in vWii and have a hard time migrating it over to Wiiu. That would seem like your problem in general, way too much games to the point where it's overkill and then end up playing none of it. I can understand if you didn't want to install GBA VC or SNES VC, but Wii and Gamecube are much more significant than that. It's much better to use one primary storage device for everything rather than having the need to search for or manage two separate storage devices.

I agree. Especially for someone coming into this anew then your approach should be the one to take unless you like have every title accessible just cos you can and sometimes just want to play random rubbish for the sake of it.

Interesting. Well, it gives me something to look into! And makes actually bothering to hack to Wii U suddenly seem more like a real project. Haha.

Trust me, it's not hard work at all to get into Wiiu hacks. In fact it's already ready to go right now, you just need to place some files on your SD card and you've just setup your wiiu just like that. Wiiu hacks is mostly about placing files on the SD then just launching a web exploit (Or if you have haxchi, its an offline exploit)
But if you're on 5.5.2, you will need Haxchi and have to pay $7 for a DS VC game to get into wiiu hacks. The browser exploit on 5.5.2 is way too unstable for normal usage.

I welcome you into Wiiu hacks, its fun trying new things. And its not dangerous.

Is there a particular tutorial/guide you would recommend? And I'm on 5.5.1, made sure to turn off updating a while back, so no worries there.

Oh that's perfect then, you can use the browser exploit for homebrew access and Haxchi is optional but beneficial.
you can use http://wiiu.guide

It may be confusing to read since it caters to haxchi users.
Just download all the files needed, from here: https://rikumax25.github.io/wiiusetup/

Download the wiiu zip. Extract all files to your SD and you're ready for wiiu hacks. Simply open your wiiu browser and go to loadiine.ovh
Then touch "Start" and it'll enter homebrew launcher where you can run whatever homebrew you need. A thing to note, after launching the web exploit mii maker can be launched to enter HBL again (Until the system is shut off where it would reset the exploit)

Oh, nice, okay. That's just like the 3DS guide. Alright. Off I go. Thanks for answering my questions!

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.

Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol

I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
