Nintendo Entertainment System --> Super Nintendo Entertainment System --> Nintendo 64 (why?) --> Gamecube (why?) --> Wii (why?) --> WiiU (you remembered how to name things correctly, my goodness!)

I thought the N64 was called that because it was 64-bit or something. I'm not too sure though.

The Gamecube was called that because it was a CUBE that played GAMES. MAKES TOTAL SENSE AND IT'S SO CREATIVE.

The Wii was called that I'm assuming because it encouraged casual gamers accessibility and togetherness through forcing local multiplayer since the online was shit great family games and gimmicks that weren't actually fun motion controls.

The Wii U is just a dumb name. "Wii", meaning "We" means togetherness or accessibility. "U" meaning "You" means it's centered around you and tailored for you specifically. So saying "the Wii U" is like calling something the "Black White" or the "Democratic Republican".
I know the etymology of the names, I know they mean something. Every name means something. I'm simply underlining the lack of consistency in the naming system.

Oh god no. Southern islands? Five Hundred and Ninty-Nine U.S. Dollahs incoming. Not to mention no backwards compatibility and all that insane DRM. If this is real, I'm staying far away from the PS4.

Though actually, there were some rumours about the next Xbox doing the same thing with used games. that would be kind of... odd if the only used games left on the market were 3DS, Vita and Wii U

Isn't the number 4 a taboo in Japan?

yes, it means death.

doesn't necessarily have anything to do with this though.

Well 6 is associated with the devil but it doesn't stop people from making Resident Evil 6 or any other games with 6 in their title.

Nor did the number 4 stop games like Resident Evil 4 or Street Fighter IV or any other games with 4 in their title being developed.

Guild, you don't understand. This is *Sony* and *an unlucky number*. I don't know a better recipie for failure...*

*this statement is entirely fictional. The assumption that the number "4" has any influence on a console's success is delightfuly silly.

Well at least the rumors make sense. Obviously backwards compatibility would be dropped when switching architectures. Keeping it would require emulation, no?
Though emulating PS2 games may well be possible on the hardware.

They will not switch architectures. :)

The rumors say they will switch architectures to x64 from Cell. I'm not saying any part of it is true or false, but I'm saying that if the rumors are false, they are certainly well-thought out.

Why would they possibly switch from an architecture that yeilds better performance for gaming devices to a typically PC architecture? Why would they needlessly use more expensive and less efficient CPU's and GPU's? Why would they just throw away development tools they've been working on for the past 6-7 years when they could just be tweaked for the next generation? I don't see a point, really. It's definatelly false.

Gtfo, I'm not arguing either point, so stop arguing them to me. :nayps3:

I don't understand why GBAtemp has such hatred towards rumors, take them for what they are. If you don't want to read them, then don't.

The only relevant comment worth reading here was Foxi's about the CPU & GPU seeming to be strange choices on the first page. Also, Foxi, it's spelled definitely. It slowly kills me every time I see you spell it incorrectly in your otherwise correctly spelled sentences.

So I don't know if Im reading this right... But if it locks a game to a PSN account... What will happen to game stores? :/
They will only sell new games and PSN/Xbox Live cards/content.

Edit: relevant
