Hardware Rubber Footing Fell Off

Do people feel that people are overreacting? Posting a thread everyday on every little problem with their 3DS?

It's something to expect, buying hardware at launch day.

The 3DS might of been of bas build or something wrong with the rubber pad.
I just suggest getting it replaced

so Nintendo should have to replace a $250 gadget because he lost the rubber foot off of the bottom of it?

Guys, please stop suggesting that I've been mistreating device. Like I said before, you won't find any damage, apart from smudges, on my 3DS unless you're looking at it on a microscopic level. I'd say I've been treating fairly well.

As a customer of Nintendo, I expect the best of quality. I've had my unit for a week and part of it has already fallen off. I think I have the right to complain.

Now it will depend on your size and how big your pocket is whether the 3DS gets squished a lot while you're mobile or not.

You have the right to complain but you don't have the right to replace a 3DS mistreated by you. even if you put it on the dock
when you're at home then you put it in your pocket when you get out, it WILL get damaged/scratched/whatever. especially if you
have coins or keys in your pocket too.

Isn't the point of a portable game system to take anywhere with you? Ergo in your pocket?

I'll never carry something that expensive in my pocket.
With all the available bags and cases and protectors for the DS line there's no excuse for not protecting your investment some better way than shoving it in your pocket and walking around town.

Exactly. I carry mine in a 3-year old DS lite case -- works just fine. If you don't have one of those, you can order one from a Chinese site for like two bucks.

Guys, it's a game console, not some sort of thing you're supposed to treat with love and respect as if it were going to end the world should it receive damage. You can bet your happy asses I'm gonna shove that thing right in my pocket and strut around town with my socks-n-sandals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I treat my consoles like crap. I take good care of them. But going "Oh you treat your console like shit" because some little pieces of rubber fell off is extreme.

I think every one is assuming by pocket he means the front or back pocket of his pants. The inside breast pocket of my coat is a reasonably safe place to keep a handheld for example... And in fact once my DSlite, then my DSi and now my 3DS pretty much lives there when not in use or when not displaced by my PSP. None of those units have any problems related to them being carried there.

I'll agree though on the build quality, the GB(C/A) series were indestructible as was the original DS. Durability started falling w/ the DSlite and continued up to the 3DS. I've had pretty good luck though, none of my units have the problems others are reporting. Knock on wood.

Arent the rubber pads tacked on like the ds's? Like cant u just glue em back, the ds ones just had glue. A possibility would be the warmth that occurs in your pocket made the glue heat up and thus making the rubber pads fall off.

I find my pockets to be a perfectly safe place to put my DS lite, iPod touch, GBA or any other portable device. I have never damaged any of my devices by putting it in my pockets. And I sincerely don't see how, unless you would happen to fall in a pretty weird way.

Doesn't it defeat the purpose of the Portable system if you have cases and bags with you 24/7? Sure i understand times when you would use a bag or such but the 3DS IS a portable system at the end of the day and I want to be able to have my 3DS in my pocket.

I don't think we're giving this guy the right advice. Its very obvious that his pocket wasn't the problem. I've put countless electronics in my pockets, including the 3DS, and I've NEVER had a problem. Additionally, nobody else has suffered this problem, so there's a good chance that his specific unit was defective or subpar in some way. Knowing this, I still can't rule out mistreatment, but just as likely as his unit being defective, if not more so.

If it in a case in your pocket, I didn't see how that defeat the purpose because while in a case it still portable.

Unless you have some hella big pockets, no 3DS in a case is also going to fit in your pocket. If it does, I would have a hard time believing it wasn't protruding and/or uncomfortable as hell.

It may be protruding, so what? It still portable. Even then my case has a clip that I can use at my waist.

And it not like all cases are huge.
