Having problems with this, I used all the files/configs you uploaded plus the new NSP on the latest sxos.

Loaded SM64 and it played like a dream, closed and tried to load NHL99 and it crashed before launch (always worked before but with some lag). Now it fails to load any roms I select including SM64 which initially worked.

Any ideas or advice?

Did you tried closing fully retroarch and launching it again. After I load one game I can't change to others until I restart retroarch fully.

I closed content in game and tried to open a new one without closing/reopening, at which point it crashed. Never had problems doing this on previous versions and setups.

Here is everything you need for the best N64 emulation:
It includes latest Retroarch 1.7.6, NSP forwarder to use full ram, Latest mupen64plus-next with Gliden64 3.0 support and special configs for this core.
You need latest Atmosphere 0.8.5 or latest SX OS 2.6.1 because they have JIT patches.
Extract zip, copy files to MicroSd, install NSP file and launch from home screen not from homebrew launcher.

FOUND THE ISSUE! The mupen 64 plus next NRO in this bundle is out of date. It was behind my latest SVC and is also behind the new nightly and caused my weird graphical oddities. Grab the latest nro if you had any problems like I did. You can still benefit from the settings in the bundle, but otherwise you can always grab the latest retroarch for switch and latest mupen next nro if you have issues.

Open like any normal nsp game you have installed using the icon on the home screen.
Is there a guide for this?.. sorry super new to the switch hacking scene. All I've done is open hbmenu from a different game icon (Pokemon Quest) and then load Retroarch from there.

m4xw's tweet on march 7th has the right SVC NRO that works with SX OS 2.6 (and 2.6.1). for me this one is what makes the difference between restarting issues, graphical glitches, and getting the most speed possible. it works fantastic now for me. try replacing whatever you have in your current cores directory with the one i'm talking about (new user can't link)

The way you describe (launching HBMenu from Pokemon Quest) is the recommended way to open RetroArch. You shouldn't have to do anything else.

I just made some Pull Requests for Retroarch Switch that got merged very quickly in just 1 day. Thanks @natinusala, @m4xw, bparker06 and TwinAphex for quick reviews and merges.

My Pull Requests implement the following new features:
- USB Keyboard and Mouse support
- Enable Caprice32 (Amstrad CPC) core

These features should be in the next nightly, whichever one that is.

Note not all mice work on Switch. My Logitech M187 mouse works fine, but many don't (just random button presses on motion).

BTW: @m4xw promised to work on Dosbox dynarec if I did the usb keyboard support, which I did. Just for the record :)

When you start a game, go back into the RetroArch menu.
Quick Menu, and then go to Options of the game you are playing.
In there you should find all of the options given to you depending on what core you are playing.

At the very top of this Options screen, you should see the name of the game you are playing, right there on the top. Once you are done making your changes in the Options screen, simply click on the game's name, and the settings/options will be saved only for that game in particular.
Edit - nevermind I found the option to bind the quick menu to specific buttons. Thanks all! Okay maybe I'm missing something obvious. But how do you access the quick menu in-game?

Also, the new Mupen core has me running OoT at full speed. Thanks so much!

Thanks for this it's going to help alot with the computer cores :) and I guess you could now use a mouse as a gun in mame?

Check fbemu settings

Yeah checked fbemu for both but nothing.
Tried Mupen64plus aswell as Next/your build..
Overclocked at Max settings and all settings are working perfectly for everything else.

Pokemon Puzzle League boots into a black screen. You can fast forward, load controller etc.. But it just doesn't go anywhere from that black screen.

Pokemon Snap boots up properly on both cores but on Mupen64plus the prof oak results screen gives you black/blank pictures and you can't progress further as it doesn't seem to recognise pokemon pictures.
Mupen64plus-Next you just can't move the camera at all. Even with controller settings changed.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
