Which core are you using? MAME 2000 or 2003? Keep in mind that it's still very alpha; I've encountered games that won't load on the 3ds versions of MAME 2000 despite both having the correct romsets and also loading in other versions of the MAME 2000 core on other platforms.

Using FBA. Got the complete 0.2.97.36 romset. Going through the games one system at a time. Most games don't load, the ones that do run at about 20 fps. They work fine on pc

Ah, okay, I see :) At this point I'd probably just chalk it up to Retroarch 3DS being alpha software.

Well, I'm now trying some of the games that didn't work in the FBA core with Mame 2003 and they boot, at a playable speed. Would have been nice to know which games are cross compatible with which emulators. Here are my results so far with the Irem games for those who want to know.
These games won't boot in the FBA core, but do work with Mame 2003
Air Duel
Battle Chopper
Blade Master
Cosmic Cop
Gunforce
Gunforce 2 (terrible sound, 30fps)
Hammerin Harry (40fps)
Hook (terrible sound, 40fps)
In the Hunt (terrible sound, 30fps)
Legend of Hero Tonma
Lethal Thunder
Mystic Riders (terrible sound, 30fps)
Ninja Baseball Batman (Must be loaded through leaguemn, 20fps)
Ninja Spirit
R-Type II
R-Type Leo (terrible sound)

All this game testing has left me feelin froggy. I'd like to request the assistance of someone well versed in Retroarch and who has a fair knowledge of the Wiki to give me a hand in making a compatibility list. Yes, I know "There are so many cores and they're updated so frequently that a compatibility list for the entirety of retroarch would be a tremendous undertaking, and impossible to keep up with, blah blah blah..." But I'm just gonna start with one core and see how it turns out. Anyone feel like helpin me get started? :)

I wonder if the man above really understand what is ROMSET
What I understand is that I was told to search for a romset of a specific number, that would be compatible with the FBA cores, and I'm finding that some games from that set work poorly, or not at all with those cores, but in fact work better with the Mame 2003 core. I do not proclaim to know every little intricacy about the various arcade emulators, and I apologize if my level of understanding isn't as high as someone who's been at this longer than I have.

You're using the wrong romset. Read the main post or pm me for help.

I have 2 questions:

- Is there an official page or anything to find the update changes? I used to update retroarch every day but now it seems kinda useless, since i never noticed a change with catsfc (the only thing i checked). If there is, please add a link.

- Is there a frame skipping option? i searched a lot but, never find it. It would be usefull for those 40-50 FPS games, since not all of them runs at 60 stable FPS.

Can someone tell me the most stable build of Retroarch 3DS, including the MAME 2003 and FBA full cores? I also kindly ask if anyone could test sfiii3n for me. (I'm in the process of getting Ubuntu for smashhax).

I've been hearing of instability issues lately?
Currently I'm using the November 12th build, but I'm unsure if it's safe to update all the cores to the latest nightly.
Any input on this?

EDIT: ...Holy crap, apparently CatSFC really does seem to be on par with it's + variant. Super Butouden 2 actually WORKS properly.
So... what's the point in the redundancy I wonder? Is there any difference NOW with Cat+ and Standard? Because otherwise I'll just use the standard build from here on if the audio is of similar quality.
But yeah, from what I can tell, there seems to be no issue with crashing on this build. Yay?
Also this is the first emulator that isn't on a PC I've seen where DBZ Hyper Dimension works full speed. Impressive! I recalled Cat+ chugged a bit on the game.

Now I think I see an issue.
Only emulators on the Nov. 19th build that have issues are FBA and MAME. Both load... and hang at the first console [WARN] message (libretro_path" is a directory, using this for "libretro_directory" instead.) which I know is standard, but doesn't seem to go anywhere further than this.

In addition to what Heran Bago said, you can also search https://github.com/libretro for individual cores that you're interested in (changes in emulators won't be reflected in the RetroArch repo, that's purely for the GUI and how the 3DS renders the emulators only).

So I got retroarch in my 10.3 N3DS for NES emulation, so I placed the quicknes into my 3DS folder and retroarch at the root of my SD card, everything works perfectly fine.

But then I also wanted to get nxengine and here is where I don't understand how to launch it, I did put it in my 3ds folder as with quicknes, it displays in my homebrew launcher but when I boot it, it just opens the retroarch menu, and I see no option to start it, "load content" opens my directory and nothing else.

2048 doesn't even show up in my homebrew menu.

I'm having a noob stroke right now, halp?

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
