That's only going to be necessary if you're going to be wanting to play NS2 exclusives like MK9. For the rest of us, the vast majority of games will still release for the NS1 (why wouldn't you, there's almost 150 million NS1s out there). I'm just going to buy one NS2 at launch, boot it up, login, set it as my primary, put it in airplane mode and change the wifi password.

If you have any intention on modding the thing it’s always best to to plan and buy 2 systems at launch and keep one in its box

If you have to search for one later down the line it quickly gets difficult, and expensive

I respectfully disagree. Vulnerable v1 Switches are incredibly easy to find for under $150 for the tablet.

I agree, I think I'll just buy the one and wait for an exploit without even taking it out of the box (maybe I will, only to charge it every now and then). I've got plenty of games to play in the meantime (on Switch, Steam Deck, and all my other handhelds).

Yeah I've been considering this but I'll make my full choice at a later date.

As I said, it wasn't expensive for the original Switch. I see no reason why Switch 2 would be different. Just buy one. If it gets hacked you can buy a vulnerable tablet by itself for much cheaper and just use your already existing Switch 2 joycons and dock. I paid $130 for my V1 tablet years after release. I'm not worried whatsoever about needing to buy two Switch 2's at launch.

Fair balance of reasons to get 2 and reasons not to. All i would add is that for all we know the Switch 2 firmware version may or may not make a difference to the console being exploitable. If you have 2, then one can be saved for a rainy day on the lowest possible firmware - both bases covered

I got my Nintendo Switch barely 2 month after the release date. I'll probably do the same as I did with the Switch, the Wii U and the 3ds. I'll buy games I really want, and since I'm not a big online player, I don't really care about being banned. So, after a couple of years, when CFW and/or other exploits start getting released, I'll probably just look over them and follow their releases, and whenever I feel ready, I'll stop updating its firmware mod it afterward when possible.
That's the exact pattern I had for the 3ds, Wii U and the Switch, and since I had bought the Switch early enough, that hardware exploit was a very good opportunity for me :)
I think that buying a Switch 2 early could also lead to such opportunity (could doesn't mean will)

Planning on getting two Switch 2 at launch myself. One to play with and one to put in the addict untill it is cracked. But also to use the extra dock, joy-cons and charger. Those accessories are not cheap from Nintendo, and just as with the Switch 1, you might as well buy a second unit for those.

The reason you are able to get a hackable v1 Switch now, is because they had a hardware entry point. If it didn’t had that and you had to rely on a specific firmware, then you would have been shit out of luck. Just look at the playstation scene as an example.

And current flash cards will not work for Switch 2 games. I would be really surprised if they did.

Assuming it's as much of a pain to keep modded as a V1 softmod, there's no reason to. Waiting for the Switch 2 OLED + modchip combo makes more sense.

I don't have that kinda money. I'll just buy a second one later if needed when they're hackable. I did for the 3DS, finding a limited edition system on <= 4.5 firmware was not that difficult. And still managed to find an iPatched but hackable on low FW Switch for my youngest brother at MSRP a good while after RCM got patched just by going around stores that sold them and checking serial numbers. I'm not worried, there will be hackable systems available in the wild even if an exploit is patched.
Even if you have to pay an eBay seller for a known hackable unit, it will be less than twice the cost of MSRP, so it's still easier for me to pay that price down the road than pay for two consoles now, and I won't need to pay for a second dock and set of controllers.
