I don't know much about how the DSi works internally
There's a part where it tells you how to install DSiWare from the 3DS to your DSi, but it's not added yet.

If you don't have Flipnote on your DSi, then you'll need to hardmod, or buy another DSi with Flipnote.
OK managed to find a DSi with Flipnote.
Following this guide
It states: If Data Management isn’t appearing, open the DSi Shop, close it, and then try again.
Now I'm on 1.4 and there's no way of getting into the shop until I do a system update.
Do you suggest I do the update - or is there another way of getting to Data Management?

You do not need the data management. You can brute force both your consoleID and CID with BFCL using ypur gpu : https://gbatemp.net/threads/twlbf-a-tool-to-brute-force-dsi-console-id-or-emmc-cid.481732/
Edit : actually there is a much simpler solution, fwtool 2.0.0 from wintermute that is contained in the pack there https://davejmurphy.com/͡-͜ʖ-͡/ just display your cid and console id directly

Even better than that -- the nand dump feature appends the no$gba footer with all that data there.
I haven't done anything yet.
Are you suggesting an easier approach?

I kinda checked what is written on dsi.cfw.guide and it is fine. On the other dsiguide.me I see things (unlauch installation via tempnand) that are very risky should not be recommanded.
Could someone please post their console_id.txt file for me.
I need to grab it and populate with my cid and console id.
As I can't get to Data Management - I don't know how the contents of the .txt should look.

I've got cid and console id via fwtool 2.0.0 (I can't get into data management without updating my console).
So I can't create the file generated by Data Management > System Memory > Flipnote Studio > Copy > Yes
As such I can't get the .bin from /Private/DS/Title/
I'm resuming the .txt created by console_id .py would be a simple txt file I could populate?
