*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ***

The FW 4.00 just released few days ago. Since the webkit exploit may be patched on 4.00 or the next firmware, I tried to find a way to bypass the update checker of PSN.

Then I found PSProxy. Unfortunately, it only support Windows. So I've made a proxy that can work on both macOS and linux (tested on Ubuntu 16.04).

Like PSProxy, PSPypass will allow you bypass the update requirement of PSN and let you stay on a lower FW.

To use this, you need to have some knowledge about how to use terminal on your OS.

*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ***
I am not responsible if your console be banned by PSN. Use this utility at your own risk!

Instructions:

On your computer / server:

  1. Download the whole project from the above link
  2. Edit pspypass.py with your favorite text editor
  3. Change region_id to your console region, and change os_version to your current FW version or below
  4. Run pspypass.py in terminal. To specific a port, just add the port number like pspypass.py 8888
On your PS4 console:
  1. Delete any update file if it's downloading or already downloaded.
  2. Set internet connection with proxy. If you don't know how to do, then just google it.
  3. Test whether you can connect to the internet with proxy. It may still ask you to update your FW or can't login PSN, but it's ok.
  4. Restart your console
  5. Now you can login to PSN
Advantages of PSPypass:
  • Works on macOS / linux
  • Since it supports linux, you can deploy the proxy on a VPS like DigitalOcean, so you don't need to run the proxy on your computer every time.
  • If you host the proxy on a public server, you can share the proxy with your friends.
Limitations:
  • Some applications still need latest FW. Such as Spotify 2.0
  • RemotePlay client on PC/Mac would ask you update your console

For more instructions, please check the README.md in the project.

The local IP of your PC.
However, I suggest you use the GUI version of PSProxy, which supports windows

Does this still work? PSProxy doesn't anymore.

Edit: can confirm that does not work anymore at the time of writing.

Yes, as PSProxy, this doesn't work now. I'm trying to fix it but seems that Sony added something to force us update to 4.01...

Myeah. I checked the new ps4-updatelist.xml and it looked like it had checksums or something added to it and a simple version number string alteration did not work, thus I PM'd you earlier (sorry about that, btw. I checked github and opening an issue ticket wasn't available).

Edit: Wasn't a checksum at all. It was a friggin' game ID, lol I'm so stupid.

psproxy is working again as from what i heared, can anyone confirm it for this one also?
If not I'll test it later, anyway

PSProxy works for firmwares over 4.0, but not for anyone under due to a passphrase change I believe.

is that different to this?
(also a python tool)
http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/8304

or is that really hardcoded to vita and doesn't work with ps4?
(i guess if it is not compatible, it should be with some small changes?)

anyway, very nice to share, thank you for your work!

Is this actually working? One guy in the thread said it isn't. Is any ps4 proxy working if this isn't?
