Actually I think it's ideal. Changes can be made quickly and without needing to recompile. A scripting language like lua is ideally suited for this purpose.

Hey! I've just updated to beta 76 using the online updater and it worked perfectly! Update now for settings menu typo fixing loveliness.
while we're at it, if the location of the .3dsx will be saved to a file, you could also save the version number to it. It could be displayed in the updater.

Good point. It would prevent people from updating unnecessarily! Ok, I'll make the launcher save its current path and version number to a text file before launching the updater. Can Lua import a text file into a string and get substrings from it? Lets say I made the text file contain "/boot1.3dsx|75", can it split the string where the pipe character is to get the path and version as two separate variables?

Is the updater now part of this or do I have to add that separately somehow?

I'm just a little confused on that part.
If you download the zip file on the first post and copy over the gridlauncher folder then it will be built in to the settings. Alternatively, you can download it from ihaveamac's GitHub release and copy it manually to a gridlauncher folder on your SD card.

best to have it at /gridlauncher/update to keep things neat and tidy

Anything works really.

I've looked at luaplayer and it does not provide any argument info to scripts. We could ask to Rinnegatamante to add a function to return arguments to scripts, but textfile is also a good option.

I'm almost sure, I'm not the first one to ask, but I think an option to load ARM9 payloads (f.e. ReiNAND, Decrypt9, ...) via Brahma 2 would be pretty useful. Would only work on or below 9.2, of course. CTR Boot Manager, for example, has this, and Brahma 2 is by now pretty easy to include as a library. Including it could be solved the same way the eshop patch is included in HBL v2.5 (via a .SMDH and a .XML).

Maybe that wouldn't even require a change in your source code, and I could simply add start parameters to my own Brahma2Loader (again, same as it is solved for the eshop patch).
I've seen I've gotten some likes on this. I made a few modifications to my BrahmaLoader branch (here) to make this possible. In theory, now it should be (in the same way as the eshop patch is included in HB launcher v2.5, check the eshop.xml in the starter pack). In fact, though, there are strange errors with passing the start parameters (ie. the name of the payload to load) via the XML file. Guess it's some kind of bug still in HBL v2.5, and I'll just wait it out. Masher Grid HBL doesn't have that XML feature required for that yet, btw. Maybe there's some other way to pass (argc/argv) parameters to an app when launching?

Good thing, I we can test the update feature, it's really neat!
Also hiding 3ds folder allows to use emergency launcher to start two strictly separate HBL, mashers' one by default and smea's one as a backup, I find this quite awesome.
I've been using both launchers for quite a while now with the Emergency boot method since it came out.

Anyone who's using the updater should manually install the latest version, v1.23ab. It has a way to update itself, which is done automatically right now. 1.3 will add better support for this.

tagging @mashers so he sees this. 1.3 should be in the next release, but I need some information

Your link appears to be broken.

Nevermind that, for some reason it's deleting index.lua, and I don't know what change caused that. I just took it down, it's not going to be worth the time to fix. 1.3 will have to be manually installed though.

I'm just gonna wait for a "stable version". Maybe in a few betas?
Why would you wait for a "stable" version? I mean, I'm using this launcher since it came out, and I only encountered 2 bugs (one was some problem on a icon column on the original version, and the other being that it always completely froze, in beta ~55 I think, but it has been solved since), and it is incredibly convenient to use, and really stable...

(maybe not as the 3DS itself, but nothing can beat its stability)

Whoa. I just tried out the updater, and it's bloody awesome! It's fast, easy to use, and simple! No more slow fockin' around with the Micro SD Manager! :D

Oh, but can I have a suggestion? A Progress Bar in the Updater would be handy!

Look at the history of this launcher. I've been helping @mashers track down bugs for a while now. I'm talking about the updater. I'm gonna wait until it's fully implemented to try that.

The launcher itself has been my main launcher since it came out.

The updater keeps updating, even if you already are on beta 76 (Yeah, i just ran it again just to see what would happen)
But it does indeed update ;) (installed beta75 and updated to beta76 throu the updater)

[EDIT]
It's really great to have the option to get the boot.3dsx named like we use it (ctrbootmanager), saves alot of trouble ;)

Thanks
@mashers
