For people who aren't aware, current freeShop installations are relatively unaffected. freeShop simply won't be able to update itself because that portion relied on Github's hosting. The game list will still be able to update itself, however.

Don't fall for trolls claiming you're more likely to be banned now or something for using freeShop. It's no less "safe" than any alternative game installers. And if Nintendo did ban you, it would be an IP ban most likely. But they risk a lot of false positives for this, likely not worth them taking action, even to punish pirates.

So it's not possible to get banned then for using it? Given that you need to have Wifi turned on to access freeshop, you'll also be online for Nintendo to see what you're using .. Idk if they actually "look" for users using non-allowed programs but ..

edit: lul ninja'd. WHY do you think no one will be banned tho?

I don't think Nintendo has ever done that (unlike Sony), sniffing out homebrew I mean, kinda has me wonder if (illegitimate) app/game activity is even transmitted back. For the Ps3 there was stealth psn, so if it is in fact sent back to them, maybe it's a good idea to implement such a feature similar to stealth psn into Luma (if there isn't already).

The freeshop fetches titles from Nintendo servers. But I don't think they can find out which app is getting the files ( eshop or freeshop). But That's just a guess.

actually situation are stabilized? i dont know how explain this but ¿this is false negative positive or someting like this?

We just need a new mirror and we are good to continue
FreeShop shouldn't be brought down, if a new mirror comes up someone let me know :)

Nintendo IS in their right to do this but they dont lose too much money from this
OR Pokemon Prism...INFACT pulling Super Mario Maker videos lost them lots of money they can never get back, why are they still pushing this kind of censorship?

in a nutshell ¿nintendo tries something but he thinks better dont do enything for risk lost money furthermore waste time?

I had a little more to add to my previous message.
You have to consider just how small a community we really are. One person will not make a difference when dealing with this law. And to get a large enough group of people is next to impossible because this law really doesn't effect a large enough part of the voters.

Actually it does, it just hasn't been enforced against them. Anyone who has installed and used VLC player is actually in violation of the DMCA because of how VLC handles DVD playback. A few mass arrests of anyone who downloaded VLC would be more than enough to get the law changed which is why they ignore it.

That's not what I meant though. When you're using an application, it will show in your friends list that you're using it. So if I'm using freeShop at the moment, and my friends can see me do so, why can't Nintendo too?

For homebrew apps like FreeShop, friends will only be able to see it if they have it installed as well, otherwise they will just see "Could not acquire this software's title." Nintendo are effectively unable to see if people are using FreeShop, and no-one will ever be banned for using FreeShop.

You can hide what software you're using. But Nintendo won't need that obvious method to know who's using what. Are you giving them hints? :p

Doesn't that mean if Nintendo has freeShop installed they can see if I'm using it? B-)

You're implying that Nintendo has, in fact, a way to tell what people are using. Seeing as no one else's shared how why don't you enlighten us, as you clearly seem to know how

Lawsuit coming in 3.2.1.. just kidding. I wonder what Nintendo can do technically to prevent such freeshop apps from working. It's like Nintendo's servers are warez heavens.

-Lawsuit coming in 3...2...1...

Prediction of the year. (I know it wasn't a lawsuit, but I knew Ninty would do something involving freeShop.)
