well i just tried it for somebody and i noticed a few things:

1) some roms can be repacked and will work fine (kirby for example)
2) other roms need some adjustments after repacking (NSMB), which include changing the exheader afterwards (and hashes). (but i got it working)
I am now trying to change the icon with makerom using the .rsf file. The problem is, when I load up the ROM, it keeps giving me the same error that I had earlier where it tells me that an error has occurred and I need to turn the power off.

I have also tried putting the extracted data from the RomFS in a decrypted/romfs file structure (like what the HostRoot field in the .rsf file was set to) on both the SD card and the Gateway microSD card, but that made no difference. I then tried inserting the RomFS into the 0-key encrypted ROM by adding on to the previous makerom command that I was using, but that did not work either.

Is there some step that I am missing?

Here is the configuration from the .rsf file that I was using, just in case it helps:

I want to recompile Dream Team with a UniqueID of a game that supports Miiverse screenshots (such as Super Mario 3D Land). Hopefully Miiverse will recognize 0-key encrypted games and I will be able to trick it into thinking that I am playing something different.

Will a game work correctly when it has an Exheader from a different game, or do you mean replace it with an edited version of its original Exheader?

Here is the configuration from the .rsf file that I was using, just in case it helps:
not sure where you went wrong, but it does work and its very simple to do

I managed to successfully decrypt Fire Emblem: Awakening, but I've ran into a tiny snag.

Is this some way to make ctrtool output Japanese file names? It's just giving me hashes in place of Japanese.

If there are, say, 30 files with different names in Japanese, but their names are all 4 letters long, I only get one file called ####.

Is your .rsf file configured differently? What are the exact steps you took from start to finish and which tools (and versions of them) and exact files did you use?

First, try getting homebrew disguised as a different game, like what gamesquest1 did. Like I said, makerom doesn't work with most retail games just yet.

At least, without a better understanding of the way it works, and a more technical process.

bog standard rsf file with unique ID put in, the normal makerom and ctrtool, and rebuilt blargsnes...nothing special
Did you also try to do this with a downloaded ROM (If so, with or without a header? Which exact header did you use if you added one?) or a game card backup?

I pwned U!, if you want custom images on Miiverse, it might be easier to just do what gamesquest1 did and load a custom NES rom on 3DNES that displays whatever silly image you require.

Or, if you've got some technical knowledge, you could make a homebrew that displays an image on the top screen. That would work, too.
