Hello everyone, I just got a switch and I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I've been reading everything i can for the past two days and I still have some big gaps left over:

1- if my switch is on 4.0.1 stock firmware do i have to upgrade the official firmware to something like 6.2 before i start using Hekate?

2 - if i just use the exploit on the current version and want to install a CFW ,like atmosphere or preferably kosmos ,will that work on my current version?will the newest kosmos work on all older system versions?

3-at what step exactly do i backup?do i backup right after using Hekate for the first time or after i use a CFW?

4-I never used a sd card in it yet....do i have to first get an sd card into it and then get it out to copy stuff i need for modding it or i can just copy the stuff on a new card before ever plugging it into the console?

5-Does a new sd card need any other preparation before modding?

Also somewhat related, is sdsetup and guide sdsetup blocked in germany?

1. No. You can stay where you are and play games which don't require new keys or update via choidujournx to 6.2.0 (or 7.0.1) and use atmo (so you don't have to deal with autorcm stuff)
But if you don't care about "possible" coldboot, you can update officially and burn your fuses.
2. Yes.
3. As soon as you get to hekate payload.
4. Nope. But if you are going to use exfat, you have to install exfat update. And in order to not update, you should use choidujournx.
5. See 4. If you're going with exfat, you need an exfat update. Otherwise you can go with fat32 (and be limited to 4gb files, but you can always split the nsps or install them via usb).
Why would it be blocked?

Thank you.

Also because i can t access it from any isp i tried at work and at home and it s not working but i i use an online proxy it works

The exfat update is just for the card or it s a firmware update for the switch?

It is just for the card, but it will force you to update your FW (unless you install just the update via choidujourNX).

Cool

One last question.you said to use atmosphere to not bother with autorcm.
So i'm asuming the newer version has it s own kind of auto booting into recovery mode?
If so and i use a full package like AtlasNX/Kosmos...will the atmosphere feature that replaces autorcm be included in it? since it is based on atmosphere

Nope. But latest atmo can now properly shutdown (so it won't reboot to rcm after 12+ seconds after powering it off).
It can also reboot back to CFW when you click reboot from the power menu or when you hit volume button on crash.

So then i just need to use a jig all the time or use aotorcm?
Which would you use?

You can use autorcm. With atmo 0.8.4 and up I even highly suggest it as there are no sideeffects anymore. But in order to boot to OFW, you will have to boot through hekate and select stock from there.

I'm not going to use the official firmware after the mod because i don t plan on ever going online or use nintendo store with it

Thank you again, you ve been very helpful

Why are they still delaying the release of deja vu again?
Was it because of a possible new Switch model or something?
Can't remember.
Pretty much.
Because why release an exploit for ninty to fix when we can wait for ninty to release their mariko units and see if they somehow fixed it? It's just a waiting game. Ninty is waiting for us to release it and we are waiting for ninty to release their hardware revision.

AMS preserves autoRCM after updating so you don’t need choi for preserving fuses anymore :P. AMS will even automatically reboot to payload after doing a system update

You should have probably mentioned that exfat can cause corruption ;)

AMS = atmosphere?

Corruption?when doing the exFat card mod or any time after while playing games?

Yea

Using exfat isn’t recommend for CFW stuff due to it causing corruption when using homebrew apps (ex. Retroarch will cause almost instant corruption). It usually doesn’t cause issues with retail games though

Ok then i ll just use standard fat partition, and just split the bigger games i guess.

Any big warning out there?like is there anything you wish someone told you before you hacked your first switch?

hm?
try to not let your battery completely die while in with autorcm
If you install any NSPs or whatever don’t go online at all (or use 90dns)
and obviously don’t update immediately after a firmware update comes out

what will happen if the battery dies out completely with autorcm? will i not be able to start the switch back up or will it just be more difficult?

You’ll need to leave it on a chrager for like 20-40 minutes, it’s more annoying than dangerous

One more maybe stupid question, would it be better to just keep on the 4.1 firmware and just use a warm boot?
I m guessing not a lot of games require 6 or 7 for now?or am i wrong?
