It will only work in rednand. Sysnand will not accept the forged ticket.
I have a question...

The sysNAND won't accept the forged ticket but will it attempt to remove the content?

Being able to boot sysNAND for "normal" games and redNAND for DLC and "other" games would be nice if they didn't interfere

If I could boot between the two and keep my same save data that'd be nice

Source please. iAqua said in the thread that it should be fine.
No one's bricked like that, but some people are advising a sysnand format so that there's no way emunand can screw with sysnand.

It might be safer to format sysnand - no one knows . It couldn't hurt.

Last time I formatted my sysnand, rednand wouldn't boot. Any tips?

Wow, first I've heard of that happening. How long ago did that happen? How did you solve the issue? Did you have to dump a new emunand?

I've heard someone say creating a new mii in sysnand allowed their "bricked" emunand to boot.

From what I've heard you just get an error message in sysnand - no attempt to delete the title.

I was performing the backup steps, so while waiting for the 30GB partition to finish dumping, I went into system options and formatted my console. After it was finished dumping, when I would try to load up rednand, it would sit at the "welcome to rednand!" screen, and wouldn't load anything.

I didn't really do anything to "fix" it, I just reformatted my SD card, redumped my nands, and am attempting to reinstall my collection..

It seems like a lot of other people have formatted their sysnands without encountering that issue. To really get at the root of your problem you'd want to try and format your sysnand again.

Because that's such a lengthy process, I probably wouldn't do it again. There's no proof that it's any better to format - so who cares.

The only thing I've seen so far that effects sysnand is that your usb games show up on both. To be honest, until there is a way to clone hdd's/microcontroller data for wiiu nand's, I wont be formatting. It just takes too long to backup and reinstall most of this stuff.

If you don't mind soldering it's already possible to make a 1:1 backup of the Wii U side of the NAND (vWii excluded)

https://www.reboot.ms/forum/threads/guide-emmc-nand-dump-backup-restore.530/

Obviously that's not for everyone though...

It would also take the full 8GB or 32GB (depending on your system size)

Haven't read that anywhere but here. I formatted my wii u and the installed rednand and haven't had any problems. It's more of a precaution but I don't think if you're just installing wii u games and wii u DLC to rednand you'll fuck anything up.

But if you start installing system titles or 3rd party programs to linked nands and run something in sysnand, yeah that could fuck it up.

So should I use -onlinekeys for everything, or just DLC?
Everything, including dlc and updates.
nono!
bad advice! use -onlinetickets whenever you can, because the ticket/installed content will be legit, and will work without hacks.
wii u update (not 3ds updates) have a legit ticket on nintendo's server, so we can make legit updates to install too.
so there is no reason to not make a legit update. but of course, with sig patches, the illegit update will still work, but, still not to make it legit...

but an -onlineticket will not exist for everything, and yes, then you will need to use keys.

an easy way to test, first use -onlinetickets, then if there is no ticket, use -onlinekeys.
(and if both the ticket and the key isn't on the keysite, enter the key manually with -key)

To clear things up, can someone have a mario kart 8 game installed in a usb drive and have DLC in RedNand? Is there a special proccess to have RedNand???
Thx in advnace.
