Newbie to R4/NDS gaming

I have ordered a R4 and a Kingston 1GB (Hopefully JP! >_>; ) off Trademe (eBay for NZ for these outside of Oceania)

Aaaaaaand I am not sure what I should be putting on the R4 apart from the 1.08 Kernel.

Any recommendations? ;D

If anyone says pokemon, I will shoot you :

I reccomend Phoenix Wright and Mario Kart, but thats my opinion you may not like those games

Moonshell (I'm not sure if it's in the R4 firmware);
SCUMM VM DS (and every LucasArts adventure you can find);
DS Doom;
HexenDS;
Tower Defense;
No Place To Hide;
Comic Book DS;
That voice and picture chat client app, I can't remember the name...

There's a lot of great homebrew out there!

*scummVM
*WordUp (latest release)
*dsOrganize
**Play around with moonshell
*and lots more!

just wondering how much you ended up paying for it

$100 NZD. A bit on the expensive side :<

I'll take any Mario game as long as it isn't Mario Party or SSMB or whatever that thing was called.

Doom + Hexen

If you want a game to develop both your skills and love for ds,

then play FFF Chocobo tales, seems like a kids game huh

not a chance, most hard core gamers are struggling to complete this 100%,

and it has lots of good elements including a rather addictive card game multilayer,

cus the problems with awesome classic games like mario cart is you don't use the touch screen

and seeing you new to all of this its important you get used to the touch screen.

hope i've helped

yeah, i have been tempted to buy a R4 off Trademe (nz like ebay, not really but kind of) but still a tad iffy because of the price. Did you order the one with the bundled micro sd card? if so I would be interested to know whether it is the Japanese Kingston micro sd.

Personally i would reccommend
-Mario Kart
-Elite Beat Agents
-Final Fantasy III (kinda crap, but i liked it)

Mario Kart
Diddy Kong Racing (pretty good game although the N64 version was better)
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales (not sure if you'll like this but i loved it

especially the card game)
Phoenix Wright

And homebrew:
SNEmulDS (can play many games pretty well now, and the guy is releasing new versions constantly)
DS Doom
umm.. TetAttDS

BeUp if you use MSN
IrcDS if you use IRC
PlayDiSMusic (i play it occasionally, it's very fun IMO)
Warcraft: Tower Defense, and a load of maps
Can't remember any more ATM

I ordered that one (I think), and I'll post what country the Kingston was made in once I recieve it (Next Sat/Sun)

Styx DS
Picodrive DS
SnemulDS
DS Master Plus
Frodo DS
Coleco DS
Goomba Colour

And loads of other emulators! It's great to be able to carry around dozens of consoles in your pocket!
