Howard - PS Vita Edition v0.1a
By LegitVidya
Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to GBATemp and wanted to share some projects I've been working on.
First up is Howard, a game I've worked off-and-on for the past several years. It's a shmup/platform game in the style of Thexder and contains inspiration from several favorites of mine. It was created in GameMaker Studio and presented here is the PS Vita port.
This is a very early alpha release, so bugs, mishaps and unfinished aspects abound. I'm keeping a keen ear out for feedback - please tell me what you like/dislike about the game, as well as what might need fixing or that you might like added! Without further ado..
About
Howard is a run-and-gun game where you must escape 10 levels of the labyrinth.
You are equipped with heat-seeking laser eyes that automatically lock on to targets on-screen. You also have a shield that can lower hit damage from enemies. The catch is that both of these skills cost your own health to use. And in Howard, you only have one life to live.
Along the way are items you can shoot to regain health, as well as a mysterious power-up that allows Howard to shrink to half his size, allowing traversal to previously inaccessible areas. This will be necessary to find the exit and make it to the next level.
I could say more, but I think the best way to experience Howard is to just dive in and play the game blind. Hope you enjoy!
Controls
D-Pad/Left Analog Stick: Move Howard - Up direction jumps, Down direction interacts with objects
Circle: Shoot laser
Cross: Use temporary shield
Square: Shrink yourself (you must collect the shrink power-up first)
Start: Begins the game, pauses
