Longtime lurker, first-time poster, here to ask for help

Recently bought a 3DS, refrained from updating or even connecting online at all. Still running 1.0.0-0U.

Just got my R4i Gold, non-3DS, in the mail. Ordered from Realhotstuff, seems legit enough. r4ids.cn is the web address on the cart sticker.

Loaded it up with the latest Wood kernal, and the update .nds file (dsi version). Ran it, updated successfully... accidentally hit 'A' again, in which case it ran the upgrade again, and again succeeded.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but the readme.txt didn't say what to do after that. So I hit the Home button, which then froze it up. So I had to hard-reset it by holding the power button.

Now it can't read my R4 at all. Tried formatting the SD card, no luck there. Furthermore, the 3DS won't even boot up when the R4 card is in the slot. And if I boot it up with no game in slot, then insert the card... nothing happens. Street Fighter IV also won't be recognized if I try inserting it right after trying the R4 cart (SSFIV does work, though, if I turn the system off, and turn it back on, without putting the R4 cart. that's good I guess). With the R4 cart in, or just removed, the system freeze when I try to access system settings.

Is this card fake? Is it fried? Please don't tell me I'll need to re-flash it or something using another DS... because that's no longer an option for me.

Is there any way I can get my 3DS (still running 1.0.0.) to recognize the card? Will I need to buy a new card?

Sigh. I knew I should have bought a new Lite instead of this useless 3DS....

It sounds like your carts boot loader is corrupted and you will need to re flash it with a ds or ds lite (no dsi) and another r4 card....that's you're only option............that or buy a new card (and if you do get a new card then I would suggest an acekard 2i, just saying...)

Yeah the problem happened when I did the update. That is, the update required to run 3DS firmware 2.0.0 or whatever.

Well... looks like I need a new card then. My Lite is done for, don't know anyone else who owns one, or another r4 for that matter.

Maybe I'll just go with the acekard. And I won't bother with the updating this time.

Obviously my greatest concern is that there's nothing wrong with my 3DS itself. My heart skipped a beat whenever it froze, after trying to use the this corrupted R4.

Just to clarify: there is nothing wrong with the 3DS, right? and a new card (acekard 2i, for instance) will work on this, with no other flashing or anything?

Should've ordered it in the first place... also available from realhotstuff (decent price, very quick shipping), with a note that says 'preupdated for 3ds 2.0.' Good, so I shouldn't need to do anything but drag n drop whatever files I want, right?

thanks for the responses.

Why did update your r4i gold(r4ids.cn) first of all?
It seems that you have just got your r4i gold, isn't it?
If it is, it must be a 3ds one.
Just take it easy.

Download 2.02 patch for 3ds from r4ids.cn and update your r4i gold once more.
Remeber that you should get a NDSL to finish this updating.

I was trying to update that 2.02 3ds patch for it. I actually don't even plan on updating my 3DS firmware to 2.xx anytime soon, but I wanted to update the R4 version just in case I get an automatic update from Nintendo or something. You know, just in case... because I knew that I would need another DSL to fix it, which I no longer have.

Just ordered acekard... not even going to mess with any sorts of updates this time.

Please see more instructoin details in "Upgrade guide for the old R4i gold(non-3DS or failed upgrading) card" on our official site www.r4ids.cn ....

The key: boot the updating patch file(3DS20_Patch_R4iGold_3DS_NDSL.nds) on a NDSL with another old flashcard.....

Hi, thanks for your response, but as I said before, I don't have access to another DSL (or R4) at the moment, and probably won't for a few months.

Your only options are to wait until you have access to a NDSL and another cart or purchase a new one.

Did the box have the 3DS sticker on it? If it did it is probably a 3DS cart but has a non 3DS logo sticker on the cart itself. I would use the 3DS patch not the non-3DS patch if this is the case.

Right, the box had a 3DS sticker, but the cart did not mention 3DS. I'm guessing it might have been pre-updated or something. Obviously updating is where I went wrong, because my 3DS could read it (as Meet the Robinsons) at first, after which I ran the update.

So I've resigned myself to buying another one... I'll give acekard a try. Won't even bother with updates this time around, especially since the site I ordered from said it was pre-updated for 3ds.

Thanks for your help.
