Hacking R4i gold kernel?

my frd has recently decided to update the kernel on the r4i gold, n downloaded from this site http://www.r4igold.net/r4i-gold-download.html, but after that the cart just don't work, when turn on, and just give a white screen.
my frd backed up the memory card files, but not _DS_MENU.DAT, and _DS_MSHL.NDS, and tried tried to get these 2 files from the orignal r4 and even other clone card site's _dsmenu files and still no luck to get it working.

I recently got one of these and have only used the most recent English firmware from the site you linked. It's never had a problem. It works fine on my DSi XL.
On a sidenote, though this is compatible with DSi 1.4 firmware, it seems to be one of the poorest flash carts there is in terms of compatibility with games and alternative firmware.

You should reformat the memory card using Panasonic SD Formatter (http://filetrip.net/f10976-SDFormatter-Version-3-0BETA.html) and then decompress the files in the firmware .RAR file onto the cleanly formatted card. Then you can put your roms & savs back in the root directory of the memory card, and it should work fine.
