So I have bought a R4i gold 3DS flashcard that plays on ds and 3ds. The version I bought went all the way up to software 9.9 on the 3DS, but since now the latest update is 10.5, I was wondering if there is a way to update it to play the newest software or am I supposed to buy one that supports 10.5? Thanks

According to R4i gold 3DS official site, their flashcart seems to be able to support the 10.5.0 directly.
