Now I don't understand completely how the cards work, or whether there are generic or specific IR receivers on the retail copies of HG or SS, but this idea came to me. If this IR receiver/sender is generic, could we get a mod that will let us change our R4i cards into ones that will work with the pokewalker? Could we solder wires between the sender on the cart and the receiver on the pokewalker?

You know what I do when I really want to use a feature thats not available when using a flashcard? I buy the game.

This is such a genius idea it might just work!!!!

But I agree with Pliskron, just buy the actual game, it is worth it, and you are supporting the game developers. Also after pirating so many games I figured I should buy a legit game.

Yeah, I'm looking into buying a game-only version (I bought a pokewalker from Nintendo before reading it wouldn't work XD) but there are many advantages to the hacked version to the other. Such as the cheats. I don't use the ones that change my pokemon, but it is nice to toggle run with B rather than have to hold it down the entire time.
Crossing my fingers for a 20$ copy. Thats not from China.

Uh, you know you can just press the run icon on the bottom screen to toggle run on and off, right?

Anyways, no, the carts also use a special chip that controls both the save data and the IR port (since they're both accessed via the same pin, somebody here did sole soldering of an actual cart to get at the saved data) so you'd need the chip from an actual cart.

You need the actual cart, so just buy it.

Refer to my earlier message. I am looking to buy the actual cart, but I also wish to know if this is going to work. I have always loved to tinker with this type of stuff.

so i guesss you plan to somehow re-write the firmware for your card also to allow it to access the IR port??

As well as re-writing the firmware of the card to make use of the IR port, you need the control chip (or preferably a software implementation of it) in order for it to function properly.

This is going to involve about a hundred times more programming that it will soldering, just give it up.

I was talking to my friend 2day at school about it. He says he did it using the personal trainer a while back, and got the personal trainer game working. I plan to buy that personal trainer game ($10) and steal it's chip and solder it how he instructs me to. He wrote some code to fix it supposedly. Worth a try right?

Get him to show you the cart or pics of it before you do anything. If there are no pics, it didn't happen.
EDIT: Where'd you see it for 10?

what a rediculous idea

No actual confirmation, but my brother said his friends Pokewalker that came with Pokemon SoulSilver, worked with his Acekard 2i, running AKAIO 1.6 RC2.

it could be made as an attachment through the SD card slot
(although after buying a pokewalker plus the adapter you might as well buy the game, assuming someone makes it)

Yeah... the AK2i has nothing close to an IR port.

BTW, I have a laptop with an IR port (wtf?) and I was wondering whether anyone could write software to communicate with either the game or the Pokewalker (with the game, it could be like telling the game to receive a gift or send back a hacked pokemon or something)

OP, get confirmation from your friend in the form of pics or a video.

Sora, your brother or his friend is lying, no flash cart has an IR port.

Fisha: IR used to be used with home theatre stuff (it IS how remote controls communicate, after all) so some laptops used to have them. Yes, it's possible for somebody make a program to communicate with it.

no IR on the AK2i, means it didn't happen...
