Yes...I tried reformatting many times and tried many different kernels, including the Chinese one just to be sure. Once it's displayed this "hardware incompatible" error there seems to be no going back...

What brand MicroSD are you using?

I used a 2 Gig Sandisk and then tried a 1 Gig I-O data...both worked fine ...THE FIRST TIME... remember, the problem happens when I save NEW SMB and turn the machine off...I hope someone can focus on that problem...

You need to help narrow down these options..

1.) R4 is defective... Get a new one
2.) Both MicroSDs are defective, get a new one
3.) Your DS is Piracy-Protected (I doubt it), try another person's DS
4.) Your MicroSDs are Bootleg garbage (Where'd you get it?)

no, "bad dump" means that specific ROM is corrupted. Just download NSMB from another site, and it might work better.
p.s. you can use the same save file.

Well considering I can't get past the error message with a new kernel and a reformatted card, a new Rom won't help me at this point...

I know, but I'm saying that it might be such a bad dump that it screws up micro sd's. just get a new micro sd, and redownload NSMB from another site.

Hmmm, that's so crazy it just might work! I've already spent 50 bucks on MicroSD cards...what's another 20? It looks like I have new hobby...

...Hold on a min. though... if there was corrupted data on the SD card, wouldn't my PC tell me? Also, wouldn't reformatting the card erase any and all data on that card?

yes, but if you keep on putting on the same ROM, and noticing that your msd gets fucked up every time you start that ROM but not even considering that maybe you should try downloading it from a different source, it's gonna keep on happening.

Hmm... well sometimes when people have corrupted microSD's, they've claimed that using this program to format instead of Windows can solve the problem. Some have also claimed that putting it into your phone or camera to format it also helps. I'd suggest trying it out before you go out and buy a new SD card. Although you've said that you've tried different microSD cards and it still gives the same problem, which makes me think that it's not the microSD that has the problem... unless it did work with new microSD and you just keep corrupting them with your rom.

Or get someone else to exchange your R4 again. Do they have any way of knowing that your R4 was already exchanged except for them recognizing your face?

It may just be the store you're buying your R4s from.. They might have a defective batch of them?

I've tried it all...get the same message in another DS too. It would seem that that particular NSMB rom has irreversibly ruined my R4...which would be a real first!

This stinks! Should I sink another 50 bucks into a new R4??!
