I just finished my first skin.. actually its not mine at all. ^^ I simply changed a few things from my favorite skins of kiruyama, mflo and Katalyst. I hope they dont mind.

I have a M3 Simply so I cleaned the R4 on the logo and inserted a black and white Mario image instead. I changed the backgrd_1.bmp so I can use it as a background of my moonshell. I also cleaned some pixel at the edge of the original skin. But see it yourself:


(the last frame is for use with Moonshell)

I've also zipped up the complete PSD set (logo.psd, icons.psd, bckgrd1/2.psd), with all elements of the skin as seperate layers (so it's VERY easy to modify) and pre-made color overlays as well (level adjustment layers with masks) so you can make whatever colors you want - takes literally two seconds in Photoshop ... Actually, I've spent several hours reworking my level adjustment overlays, and I ended up settling on 10 colors (including two brand new ones, RUST and SLUDGE) ... What do you guys think?

I've already made all of the skins, both the new drop shadow versions and the original, flat versions ... If anyone wants them, just let me know and I'll post them - there are a total of 20 skin variations (10 colors x 2 styles for each) but they should zip up pretty small ...

also, keeping the orange theme (can you tell its one of my favorite colours!), does anyone know how i'd get the orange colour from wariowares title screeen? - nice rich orange colour.

ive combined and faffed about with a couple of themes which i think look good (orange blues logo, and m3 simplys orange - hope they dont mind - balanced the oranges and enhanced the logo - im learning photoshop as i go along) - i'll have to work out how to post them.

i like the "simple" designs above though.

You could try running the game on an emulator. If it works, you could take a screenshot and get the color that way.

Hi, has anyone come to problem that skinning does not work ? I have the default skin (2 pac men, music notes and OS X Finder) even if I have _SYSTEM_ folder with the 4 bmp files in the root. Doesn't work, crap :/

I have v1.06 final release and I'm trying to use this skin.

I just opened all the files in Preview.app and resaved them as bmp, they are slightly larger (148kB) but they work.

Hehe, glad i could inspire someone... Well as far as credit goes, I wouldnt have gotten into skinning the R4 without TonyHawks templates. Well not really templates, but some of the files in his DIY kit, allowed me to make some very detailed templates I could use to skin.. Thanks to all..
