EDIT: Soft-reset while in moonshell still not working ;o

---------------------------------------------------------------

I use Chinese version. Soft-reset in moonshell works fine.

Press just start button not L+R+A+B+X+Y.

start button does not work either.

That's strange. In chinese version 1.06, Soft-reset in moonshell works fine.

I've tried once more a few seconds ago, it still works. I use moonshell including in R4 OS 1.06 Chinese version.

Oh my god...

While I am writing this post, R4 official Chinese Homepage has just erased the Soft-reset function in Moonshell.

How long time we wait for the next R4 OS release!!!

hmmm, .txt files don't seem to be showing up at all in the r4ds menus (i put the .txt file in a folder called eBooks). but they are showing up and are readable in moonshell... anyone else not having them come up?

They said it would support ebooks, not .txt files.

what extension do ebook files have?
It can vary. There's a bunch of different formats, .txt actually being one of the lesser used formats. They don't specify what formats so I'm gonna try a couple and report back

Ebooks are .txt files. And normally you cann't see those files.

Press select button then you will see *.txt files and others. You can read *.txt files directly in R4 OS.

Yeah, *points up* lesser used format like I said, mainly because they are easily editable by others.

Nah, it does support .txt ebooks.
Actually took me a while to figure it out.
The select button now rotates between 3 modes - Games, Files & Ebooks.
Select the ebook mode and then open the .txt file.
Create the saver and then viola, it should open.
Read the instructions on the firmware page on what the buttons do.
I'm reading at an .txt ebook now and to tell you the truth, the moonshell version is a lot better because it supports the touchscreen.
Hope that helps.

Just updated my fimware to 1.06 English. I'm guessing we don't need the "shell" folder anymore. Soft reset in moonshell gives a crash screen. and E-Book is nowhere to be seen.

The "shell" folder was renamed to "moonshl" ever since the 1.6 betas.

I've been playing around a bit with it and think they need to:

-make .txt and other ebook files unhidden by default

-not have letters (like the bottom of g) cut off at the bottom when using anything but the largest font in the the ebook viewer

-get that moonshell reset to r4 menu dealio working

Thanks. I didn't know that. I just used the kernel and the "shell" folder still worked fine back in 1.06 beta.

Pressing L+R+X+Y+A+B in moonshell is giving me an error screen. anyone else get the reset to work?

no, they say on their site that they will have it working in their "final release" of 1.06. i guess they had it implemented but took it out for some reason.

the update includes moonshl, system, ds_menu and _DS_mnshl_nds, do i have to paste it all in my SD card?
That's all I did. I also deleted a folder called "shell" it seems like it's not needed anymore. I only did that because I've had my R4 for a while now if yours is new you won't have to.

I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856

I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

Maybe start a kick starter page and sell them, yea right. Big N would prob C&D me, not anything Big N related, but just because that's what they do nowdays. Then come out with they own in a year or so.

@Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
@Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
