I've been looking at the scene and noticed people selling banned switches and I was thinking about maybe buying one since I don't plan on playing online.

Here they are

1 - can you still download dlc and updates if you purchase them.

2 - are there any games that won't work at all of banned.

3 - can I get a small explanation of anything else I might of missed?

1) There are two types of ban, one prevents access to the shop (and with it DLC and updates). Said type is getting to be more common as well.
2) Ignoring games focused around online play then technically you have things like LA Noire. It shipped a cart needing an update to work, no official online and then you have to resort to hacker methods. Said hacker methods will also get you normal game updates, though a nice system of sharing such things is not quite here yet (will happen before long though). No idea what or if any future games will do similar things, updates to games also have been known to fairly radically rework things.

I should also note not all banned switches are hacked -- there are those that tried paying with a dodgy credit card or get themselves banned for online behaviours. Similarly someone might have only done minimal hacks so it is not like buying a banned one will boot straight into a nice custom firmware if you were thinking that might be a nice route to a hacked system.

Hmm, I was just hopein to play the new Pokemon game and maybe emulate older systems. But I'm reading about about soldering stuff and it's not my forte. Maybe in a year or two I'll buy a new one

I think that if you have a banned console you should stop buying at all, online service will be garbage so having an offline switch won't be a problem

What most of us have done, Myself included is just get another switch. There are enough places, That can't be linked too have have the update NSP's. So that is one less worry.
