Thank you, kind sir.The time-bomb kernel would tell you to replace the card even before you'd see the GUI. However, you can replace the R4.dat file with YSmenu.nds almost directly by hex-editing it. This way you'll never encounter such problem

Yes but only when you need to play a dsiware enhanced game.Thats the only reason you will want to still boot into your stock kernel as a .nds file.All other roms that don't use dsiware have no issues running off ysmenu so if you don't want to play a dsiware enhanced game you can simply keep the date on your console normal.
