Which way should I use to load Custom IOS modules and plugins?

  • Load them automatically when cIOS is loaded (built-in)

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Load them from the application (not built-in)

    Votes: 0 0.0%

@ waninkoko, i'm sure by now you probably know who the dev's on this site are, maybe you should consider communicating with them via PMs (or start a thread requesting that dev's PM you with comments, then just delete any msg's u get from people with a post count under 50, lol).

I don't think it matters how many different polls you start, your results will always be skewed by non-dev's wanting to vote (fyi, i didn't vote, and i didn't even post in this thread until now because I don't think my opinion on this matter really means anything... if only all the other non-devs felt the same way)

anyways, sorry for this semi-off-topic comment. Keep up the great work, I for one really appreciate it.

Cheers

Another advantage of external modules is
- Applications can easily be configured to load the modules from sd/usb or somewhere else.. That would also make the development of said modules easier...

waninkoko: well, you have the responses from devs from 3 loaders:
- GX: giantpune : external
- NeoGamma: WiiPower : external
- Configurable: (me) : external

Who else is missing?
- WiiFlow: development is mostly abandoned
- CoverFloader: is occasionally updated but it doesn't seem to be very actively developed any more.
- uLoader: we know Hermes opinion already...

The only things missing in cios 249 in my oppinion are:
- frag-list (for support of ntfs, fat, and other filesystems with .iso .wbfs or other formats)
- proper handling of games with ios reload problem.

If these two things are added to the monolithic version of 249 then I don't feel the need for external modules.
If you don't plan on adding these then external modules are highly wanted.

that's plausible.

I'm going to play GTA: TBOGT. I'll be back in 1h 30min and then I'll take a decision. Now it's your time to convince me with posts or votes to use one method or another.

Sir, yes Sir!

I would take what you give us.

Everything that makes WiiPower, giantpune, Dimok and Oggzee and the other codes more productive will be highly appreciated.

Make your choice.

you really should keep builtin modules because a lot of homebrew won't work anymore if you change the way the ios 249 works...

You may do both (builtin but can be replaced by special commands), i know it's more work but you can't force everyone to update their applications or prevent them into using it if they update their cios

off topic: can you explain what patches you do to ioses, what modules you are replacing/adding, and also what plugin do you add (how do you install a plugin on module by the way ?)
thanks

I don't know about that
What homebrew (other than backup launchers) can only work with IOS249 (and not any other trucha patched IOS)?

every backup loader, and some homebrew do not ask for which ios to use at startup. And n00bs are using 249, even if they don't have custom ios because 249 is widely known.

You can't use what you don't have...they have cIOS if they're using it. Whether or not they KNOW they have it...that's another story.

Well, as far as I know (and as tj_cool stated), normaly Homebrew that uses IOS249 just needs the Trucha-Bug, and maybe some other patches it has (DI_Verify, etc..), and not more. I doubt that the new cIOS wouldn't have these...(though, I'm just assuming...). So, this argument seems invalid...

Now to the Loaders: If the cIOS gets updated and is stable and good, the devs will also update their loaders. If they don't do that, you maybe even shouldn't use that loader anymore, because it is or will get outdated (see WiiFlow

). I don't see any reason to make the modules internal, but that's just my opinion...

They could also use the stubbed one
But that would be pointless...

some people are using ios 249 to instal cios when they don't have one ...
i just see the huge wave of people that will have problem because of the change of the way it works.

I like the fact you don't have to use a module. I'm doing something right now that if it finds boot2v5 it doesn't try to load the ehcmodule for Hermes's cIOS. So no crash in SNEEK. OK, the best option would be to fix SNEEK or the cIOS, but I'm not up to that. The only option for 249/250 right now is to not load it at all.

Ok, rev18 will have built-in modules.

why? the polls differ?

i guess due to this:
