Why would you want to dump something that exists in a forum/website to download already? And most of them have the source code available too.
The only reason I can think of is if you want to share homebrew with a friend or something, and you forgot the name of the homebrew (which is highly improbable).

I don't think you know what you're doing... "Dumping" a homebrew is as easy as copying it from your SD card... If you mean something like reverse engineering it then the word you're looking for is decompile, which you really don't have to do for homebrew... If you want to modify boot.3dsx then just go grab the source from smealum's github: https://github.com/smealum/3ds_hb_menu then use the instructions there to compile

taken smealum's boot.3dsx homebrew launcher, made no changes to it, and just gave it a different name.
it wasnt a fork it was litterally just the boot.3dsx in a folder.

With braindump, we can dump the files of a game for viewing on a computer. so like that
homebrew doesn't really work the same as commercially released games and software. but most of it is open source, for example smealum's homebrew launcher: https://github.com/smealum/3ds_hb_menu
