I really hate for this to be my first legit post outside of introductions.

I just got my R4DS+1gb Kingston (japan) from realhotstuff today. I tried the included micro sd reader and it refuses to read my micro sd card. Windows XP installed the drivers for it ok and it shows up under my computer, but when i have the micro sd card inside it says "insert disk into drive e"

Can someone please tell me what's going on?

hopefully it's just the reader..

Thanks.

Forget it, don't even use that reader. IF you have a laptop with and SD reader, use the SD adapter that comes with the micro sd and use that. Or just get a new MicroSD reader. I think that was the thing what corrupted my MicroSD card. I'll never use the reader that came with R4..

The very first ones were blue and roundish on the edges. The second one which I have was a green, cube like reader. And the third one, they have the silver readers.

He might have a defective one too, who knows. This stuff is made in China so I would expect anything, honestly.

I got a silver one that works perfectly. I didn't have to install anything, just popped it in and got to work. Just make sure you stop the device when you're done, or it might mess up.

I got a Silver/black reader that works great, i've used a kingston 2gb (japan), and a Patriot 1gb (bought from newegg.com) and both have worked great!

I don't see why people hate the Micro SD card reader/writer which comes with the R4DS.

Mine is perfect and there is no fault in it.

The R4 team changed the Micro SD card reader/writer over time and the latest one is what roguetrip and me has. Sliver and black very tough little thing. The latest one is great, i have had no problems with it and the writing speed is fine.

My silver one crapped out so I got this:
Iogear MicroSD/TF USB reader

I can vouch for this reader. I've been using it since I've had my R4 from late December last year. The reader it came with overheated and died within 5 minutes of plugging it in. I used the SD reader in my computer for a little while but it was so slow to write that I went out and bought that microSD reader. No problems since.
