The USB adapter that came with the R4 is junk. I used it once and had to hide it from my sight.

I use the SD adapter that came with the microSD and then put it into the SD card slot on my computer. If you can do that, IMO that's the best way to go.

Every computer, printer, PMP that I own has an SD slot. The things are everywhere.

Hah, thanks! I just remembered that I had a slot on my printer, and it shows up as Disk: G on my computer. It works!

I right clicked it and checked properties, and I noticed it's set on FAT32. Should I format it to just plain FAT? Is that the one you're supposed to use; because I don't see a FAT16 >_>"
Anyway it's all good, I deleted everything I had and have 971mb left.

If it's a 1gb microSD, then yes, format to FAT (aka FAT16). And make sure to do a full format (uncheck "quick format") just to make sure you don't have any memory problems when your R4 arrives.
