All items originating from dark world have their name and description auto-generated from parts of the script. (from the original japanese script location, not the english version).
So most items will contains garbadge as it picks part of the name/description in places not used by the english script.

So I can confirm what Cyan explained. The "garbled" text is randomly generated content that I could not fix with english translated content. I tried to get it all working but the code randomly picks random chars from some of the files and generates garbage. I do not know of anyway to fix this. It not perfect but items are usable.

My goal with this project was to get it playable in English.

I have no plans to make the game 100% English since it would involve much hacking and time to get it there.

i'm sorry i didn't mean to bother with that, i just thought i had to show it, sorry.
Anyways, is this unfixable too? i am referring to the kanji next to "Clear Bonus" and "good ending" writing

would you like me to remake the iso from my game, retranslate it to be absolutely sure i'm using last version, and reach that point again?

Well. I know it's been a while, but... is there a version of this that works for 5.00 M33-6?
I ask because I patched the specified release, but all that happens on the PSP is a black screen (like other ISOs that haven't been fixed to work with CFW).

EDIT:
I know an older version of the patch worked on 5.00 M33-6 before:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/psp-la-pucelle-ragnarok-translation.320662/page-14

But it's been a while, and apparently, it doesn't work anymore, at least as far at the download and patch instructions on the first post are concerned.

The issue is either the ISO or the patcher.
Try another Xdelta program or version.

Xdelta format is picky, be sure to use the one provided in the first post to match the format generated for that game.

If you are already using the same xdelta program, then the iso is probably bad.
you should try to "find" the ISO released by caravan
La_Pucelle_Ragnarok_JPN_PSP-Caravan (filename cvn-lpr)

I don't know if that affects game compatibility, but M33-6 has a setting for disc emulation mode in the vsh menu.
press select and try a different mode.
(sorry, I don't remember the correct menu's name without looking at my console)

Well, I don't know if it could be the ISO since I am using that one, and I tested them to make sure they worked on PPSSPP emulation (they do).

I generally use the M33 Driver for M33-6, but I tried a couple of the other ones too.

I'll try downloading a different Xdelta to see if that will work. (though I used the one from the first post's link)

EDIT:
Tried on a new, clean ISO. Failed - Black Screen.
I can't find another version of xdelta that actually patches isos. Xdelta3 only seems to create patches, but has no function for applying them.

I'm still on m33-6 too because I don't know what I will lose by updating. (homebrew, plugins, pops, etc.)

Some MD5 so you can see if your ISO is correctly patched. if it's not the iso, it's something on your MS or PSP.

original ISO : e45e0962228eba5b9dc4d558a2d30be7
patched ISO v1.0.0 : 53611d508c8195b6ca23764b50125731
patched ISO v0.3.2 : 786ba89269d965e7c78aaeabc855f504
apparently I never patched/played 1.0.1

I have no idea how to check those, and I'm not sure how it helps if I can't check the 1.0.1 patch, unless the original ISO has been the wrong one three times over.
This is really frustrating. I've been waiting for this to be finished for a while now, and it's like everyone can play but me.

I have no plans to translate the images, fix the random item / name generator or use variable width font. If you ask me to fix them, I will ignore you. If you are interested in fixing it yourself, I am more than willing to include your fixes in the patch.

I fixed the font, it's not variable width, but it looks better.

After checking the MD5 numbers, both the original ISO and the patched 1.0.0 ISO matched with your list perfectly.
... it still doesn't work, though.

I get the issue that I do when I try to use an ISO that hasn't been "fixed" by the community to work on M33; It stays on the white PSP splash screen too long, then fades to black and the system freezes until you turn it off.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
