If you already own a PSP-3000, then yes for collection purposes anyway. If not, maybe the 3000 first, but it's just my opinion that the Go is ugly lol

The question is unclear. If you dream about it at night and feel that your life will always be somehow incomplete as long as one of these is not in your possession, then yes, clearly you must get it.

If you are already regularly playing PSP games on some other hardware (or if you're just using an emulator) and find that hardware to be entirely to your satisfaction, the no, why would you get it?

Yeah normally for this sort of question we have a price, pictures of the device for quality checks and the like. For reference working ones on ebay seem to hover between $140 on the lower end (few scratches and the like) to around $200 for kept in a nice condition ones in terms of ones actually sold in recent times. That is a lot for a PSP from where I sit but I suppose it is now nice and retro, and somewhat rare.

Back in the day an unmodded PSP was basically deemed useless and the PSP go was useless even without that (no UMD, no easy battery, no hacks to match).

Today we have far nicer hacks and for some this does render the Go as one of the more desirable models over the alternatives. Usually because of the form factor than anything else.

In terms of pure "I want the best means to play this" (that is not a vita) then a nice 3000 or suitably blessed screen 2000 will be the kings of the castle (best screens, nice memory extras which some homebrew and ROM hacks do make use of and thus exclude the 1000). I can see the PSP Go being a serious contender or alternative though, certainly more than the Street and ignoring form factor or some inexplicable fandom for UMD it would take a very determined person to argue for the 1000 over a modded go.

The batteries are a pain to replace vs the regular PSP, and can suffer the same puffy problem of the regular PSPs.

Ergonomic wise, the Go is hard to play. I sold my go once I got my PSVita. For collection purposes though, go for it. I had my PSP Go for like 2 year, modded it with Infinity CFW and it's a good mini portable device. But playing on that thing sucks.

On that note, is there an easy way to pair a Dualshock 3 with a PSP Go at this point that doesn't involve a PS3?

You used to be able to do it with the Motioninjoy drivers on a PC, but nobody wants to touch those anymore (for good reason). I think you can do it manually with the SCP Pair Tool, but only if you know the PSP Go's Bluetooth ID first.

I should add that the Memory Stick Micro cards for the PSP Go used to be pretty rare and expensive, but it seems they're cheap enough on eBay now. I should also further add that the PSP Go also requires its own unique cables for absolutely everything – unless you can find a dock, in which case you can use a PSP-1000 charging cable. (The dock is required if you want to charge and use TV-out at the same time.)

... And speaking of that, is there a recommended PSP->HDMI scaler these days? The Lenkeng LKV8000 used to be the most highly-recommended product and I kept hoping it would become cheap and readily available, but it never did.

Get it. I remember buying a new white one when they first came out, although it wasn't that comfortable for long sessions, it was a really nice system. For some reason I sold it and still regret it to this day.

The PSP is retro now? That makes me feel old. It's only two generations old.

I personally don't like how it looks, it looks like a cheap plastic toy to be frank. More importantly it uses M2 memory cards, and you can't get MicroSD adapters for it like with the ol' PSP. That is a big turn off for me as Sony's proprietary memory cards are overpriced. But eh, up to you.

Someone did actually develop some sort of mod for SD cards alternative storage a few years ago, but it's not a very elegant solution – and like I said, the cards are cheap enough on eBay now.

If you want to play psp games on there then get it but if you just like the form factor and want it for emulation I think the xperia play is a better option. It is a nice console my mate gave me his because he never used it but i haven't used it much either lmao

hmmm... took a look... you have my intrest. i was gonna use it for media, modding and emulation. and maybe a little practice taking consoles apart too.

There are surely cheaper and better alternatives these days at least for media and emulation, are there not? And there are probably more interesting things to take apart as well.
