Wow... in a thread consisting of little more than speculation and masses of Sky bashing, that post just pushes speculation to a whole new level.
The facts are that two Japanese games released over the past month contain some sort of new encryption that no one really properly understands at present, and those two games are currently unplayable on Sky3ds.
The Sky3ds card IS NOT BLOCKED in any way, shape, or form (Gateway is technically more blocked than Sky, as it cannot be used on any sysnand firmware after 9.2... yet it is still very useable on the firmware that allows it... the same is true of Sky - aside from these two games).
Pretty much everything in this thread is conjecture, speculation, and fanboy bias.
Wtf? So those two games work with GW and other CFW'S and yet they don't seem to work with Sky even with all those new fancy templates, makes you think right? You've got straight up technical answers from respected devs of the scene and still you delude yourself. Sure, there are only two games now but this is only the beginning.
Gee I dunno, because its easier to block it at the card level? Proven? Noob replies = stupid troll fairies? 100%.
I get you, but you really seem to want Sky to be ok even tough it's clearly not. You said that Sky is not blocked in any way shape or form but yet you've got some technical answers from people who know what they're actually talking about. I mean what are the chances that these "rumors" are false when those two exact games work on CFW and yet they don't seem to work on Sky. Bad dumps? Nope.I'm not deluded - how are the facts in my post in anyway delusional?
I'm aware of the facts and the probable implications.
...I'm just annoyed at all the posts in this thread full of "if", "might", "maybe", "I guess", "possibly", etc that are being treated as statements of fact when all they are is speculation and biased opinion - and whenever anyone tries to counter those opinions with any sort of logical reasoning they're being shot down, derided, and generally treated like idiots by the holier-than-thou scaremongers that are fuelling this non-debate.
Right? I did some sky3ds re for fun the other day (had a hunch of what the 'mystery bytes' in the header were, hunch was right) and I was stumbling upon an assload of detectable bugs with the thing.I don't know why Nintendo hasn't blocked the Sky3DS at the firmware level in newer updates. It's not that hard.
Thank god you don't work for Nintendo's R&D team yet.Right? I did some sky3ds re for fun the other day (had a hunch of what the 'mystery bytes' in the header were, hunch was right) and I was stumbling upon an assload of detectable bugs with the thing.
Honest to god, swear on my life, I found 4-5 traits that Sky3DS has that don't match retail carts. And that's in about an hour without intentionally looking for them. Given the gap since the last FIRM update, I reeeally wouldn't be surprised if the next FIRM blocked the card.
This new copy-protection acts as a solid barrier to protect future games. You can bet you'll see a barrier to these existing carts coming up soon.
Terrible buisness decision.aren't the o3ds CFW is on the same boat? it already can't play a number n3ds exclusives games and if all games are now made n3ds exclusive it will be the same...

lol they would be loosing far more money by doing that than if they just left sky3DS working forever, imagine that, "guys we can fix this, to stop a couple of hundred thousand pirates we will just cut off support for millions of o3DS owners"aren't the o3ds CFW is on the same boat? it already can't play a number n3ds exclusives games and if all games are now made n3ds exclusive it will be the same...
well I doubt the games of the future will all be n3ds exclusive, but the way to go is a n3ds + 9.0-9.2 firmware with cfw/gateway or sky

was a bit of a backwards way of an aproach from nintendo, i totally understand them trying to mix up the protocol to further protect future games and that would be the end game, but they should have blocked ia FW first while they were workin on the more permanent fix......but i guess i can see why they went straight to B rather than focusing on detection as that would just be a game of cat and mouse with detecting then sky3ds refining their emulation code

nope, afaik it works fine for o3DS, but thats the point im trying to make, it would be a dumb move or nintendo thinking only releasing n3DS exclusive games is the solution to the problem, what they have done here if anything proves their commitment to stand by the o3DS and try lock it back down as best they can.I must've missed it somewhere, so is Fire Emblem IF specifically only for the n3ds? I'm looking at the box art online and I don't see anything stated that.
Since I couldn't find an answer to the above I'll ask this as well, does IF work on the o3ds/xl systems?
yeah i think at this point there isnt going to be many more major titles released for the 3DS, so even if this is the end for SKY3DS (although that seems unlikely.....time will tell how much of an issue this is for them thought) as long as nintendo don't come and kick them while they are down and block them completely in the next FW update, having a sky3ds and buying the remainder of the future releases you actually want to play and you should be goodSky3ds Isn't OK but for now only we have 2 or 3 JAPANESE games with the new AP, how long do Nintendo 3ds has of life?, 1 o 2 years? how much games will be releases? 10?, 20?, all of them will be good games?, only buy in original all of them that you really like and the others forget them, or sell your 3ds and buy another exploitable o3ds/n3ds and install a cfw, it easy.
Fellow DS-X veteran! Yeah, patching stuff was such a pain back then. Especially when you had to keep tracking down a new version of arm7.bin to replace... Such big promises about upgrades and "future-proofing" that just never followed through on. ~_~Like I said, I'm aware of the probable implications. I'm no stranger to flashcarts becoming redundant (I struggled for months with my DS-Xtreme - patching the arm9.bin of every rom before eventually giving up and getting an Acekard... which itself eventually became unuseable on current hardware), and it's naive of anyone to think that any flashcart is untouchable. Sky's had a good run and is still providing a good solution for the people on newer firmwares with no other alternatives.
Also, I'm not ignoring the facts being supplied by the 'respected devs'... even though the facts are sometimes hard to pick out when the posts containing them are also rife with speculation and personal opinion.

I don't really have anything to say, I'm just following the thread because I've got a friend on 9.9 who's looking into buying a Sky3DS, so I'm waiting to see how this whole thing shakes out.

my comment was aimed at the person saying they could just release all games as n3DS exclusive and consider that a fix, yeah sure it would "fix" the problem and make all games unpirateable (assuming the 9.6 n3DS crypto is never cracked / publicly cracked), but it would also cut off millions of legitimate gamers so it would be a stupid move
