We all knew this shit was going to happen...

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/16/report-playstation-4-will-stream-games

Now, I know some of you will bitch about how this is not in the proper USN format but right now I'm drunk and with all do respect to the admins, I don't give a fuuuuuuu! The fact that I can still release a kick ass news story while being drunk is testament to my journalistic prowess!

Oh and one more thing... A pic for teh thread!

So you'd say this is stream of consciousness reporting?

As the article says, with their acquisition of Gaikai, this only makes sense. Plus, if game streaming manages to catch on in the next 7-8 years or so, then they'll be in a good position to capitalize on that. Also, seeing how backwards compatibility drove up the price of the PS3 at launch (and we all know how that went), I can understand why they'd include this workaround in its place.

Agreed! I knew this would happen the moment they purchased Gaikai. It's actually one of the few ideas that Sony had that I would consider smart. It will really help them keep cost down. Now the question is, will they be able to include a PS4/PS3 game streaming service for Vita with cloud saves.

Where is the pic from? Looks a bit different from the prototype we've been seeing.

Why do you need to play your PS3 games on a PS4 when you still have a PS3?

I knew something like this would happen. Adding in PS3 BC to the PS4 will make the PS4 expensive as hell.
Better this than no BC I guess.

I never liked streaming services like OnLive, the quality is just so unstable for me.

Sometimes, it's in crystal clear HD, then, a few minutes later, its like watching a 240p Youtube vid.

    I'd rather get a PS3.

I hope this system will be really solid - streaming PS3 games isn't going to be an easy task considering the game size and graphics stuff. Your Internet must be pretty powerful too I guess...

Ugh, I don't really like the new controller. Apart from the analogs which look really comfy, the touch pad position seems really awkward.

Why wouldn't it just support PSN games at launch? No need to add extra hardware. Besides, didn't Sony claim to be going with a more "innovative" route over more power?

So they'll either rip off the Kinect this time, or the Wii U Gamepad.

Good thing it's a mock-up picture. Although, something tells me that the real one will look almost similar...

Those with PS3 consoles should just stick with that as far as PS3 gaming goes but those who are starting fresh should really consider this option. I really think this is worth the effort.

Streaming PS3 games via an internet connection? Everyone obviously has fast stable internet connections that never drop. True story.

And of course we will live right down the street from the server.... That's the dirty secret of streaming ANYTHING, movies and non interactive media you can stream no problem. Who cares if you have 2 seconds of latency as long as you're getting 30 frames per second of video. 2 seconds of latency in a video game? Chess ok, Tekken Tag 2? Not so much.

I don't see a whole lot of PS3 game streaming going on, this would require banks of PS3's set up... It's not like emulating the PS3 is even possible right now and even it was possible the hardware requirement for running one instance would be pretty crazy.

Latency explanation for dummies: Imagine you have a fantastic 100Mbps Internet connection, you can download entire movies in minutes!!! So you think "Yeah streaming video games will be no problem for me!" Not so fast there slick... You have a nice fat and fast pipe, but no matter how fast it is the data is going to take the same amount of time to travel from point A to point B. Your 100Mbps connection will transfer data from the US to China at exactly the same speed as a 56K dial up modem if your just sending a single packet of data... Laws of physics are a bitch... When it comes to streaming a game, being physically closer to the server is more important than how wide your pipe is.

No qualms with most of what you wrote but I should mention a lot of these services are hosting things in exchange or even in cabinet. To that end it is really not unreasonable to expect quite a few would be users of the service to be down the street.
