PS4 gets kernel level access on FW 4.06

The PlayStation Vita isn't the only system that has scene news today, as a user named qwertyoruiop has done something huge with the PlayStation 4. On official firmware 4.06 he managed to get Kernel access through an exploit. Established PS4 hacker "Cturt" also tweeted out the following:

The web exploit is claimed to work on 4.xx firmwares, a huge advance compared to the previous exploited firmware, 1.76. There is no guarantee of a CFW or backup loader at this point in time, but it is still a huge breakthrough in the PS4 homebrew scene.

Being honest here, how useful is a backup loader when every time you insert disc it installs data from the disc. At this point is basically a way of saying "Hey now you don't have to change disc just to boot a game already loaded into your system" O_o

Yeah i know i answered my own question, but the fact the system loads data from disc into harddrive, what is the point of disc anyway? O_O

Can someone tell me if 4.07 patched something important of the 4.06 flaws?
If not, then this might work on 4.07 (So I won't update my PS4)

I don't know, well, maybe not having to have the disc in the first place :D

It might contain data that tells that your game was purchased and it is legit. Idk tbh d:

By the way, the exploit is said to work on 4.xx? So, does it work on 4.50 too?

It could be just to verify the game. Maybe the point to installing it is what if the game gets scratched or something

This, I wonder if he tried on latest firmware.

I know back up loading means not needing a disc, just i don't understand why the system itself always install the data from the disc into the system. On ps3, some games like Dead or alive 5, blaz blue, street fighter 4 would have options to install data to HDD to increase loading times, it was only some of the data, not all of the data on disc. Even games like Metal gear solid 4, and assassians creed, they were mandatory but it wasn't all of the data, only a portion.

On ps4, no matter what game you put in the system it installs all data on disc. Is basically like a computer requiring a CD just to boot the game even though all the game data is already on the HDD. The whole purpose of having the Disc in the first place is to not need so much Data on HDD so you can use it for Download only titles and dlc or whatever else you want.

The intention with both the PS4 and Xbox One was to load all data from the hard disk. A blu-ray drive can't read that much data fast enough whereas it was sort of doable on PS3 and almost always possible on 360 since DVD read times are significantly faster only because there was so much less content to stream from the disc compared to the current hardware.

afaik the kernel exploit is supposed to work on 4.50 but the webkit exploit doesn't so there's actually no way to use the kernel exploit on 4.50. So there's still hope :)

im sure if you got kernel access. wouldnt it be easy to get webkit access. knowing that webkit is like swiss cheese, full of holes.
