Great guide! but does it mater what firmware im on to begin with? nothing in the OP mentions anything about which models are hackable either
If you are using a fat or 2000 slim, you can follow this guide

If you are on a 2500-3000 slim/ss then you use the han enabler method that just came out.

It's the original fat model. Prob the very first hardware rev

I've read that the fat one is better for ps2 games (because it has the ps2 hardware in it) is that statement still true? Idk how old the article was.
It has to be an original bc fat to have the ps2 hardware so yeah, thats the best model. All ps3's have a built in software emulator anyways.

Are the update PUPs compatible with consoles of all regions? I have a compatible Japanese slim that I'm ready to start the process on but I'm not sure if the 4.82 update linked in the first post will be compatible with my console.

Thanks for any help in advance ;)

Edit: Figured out 4.82 is the latest FW and I'm thinking I can just update via the console itself?

Figure I'll ask here instead of wasting a thread: Which PS3 console (OG, Fat, Slim, etc) is best for hacking? What resources will I need? from the looks of it, just my PC, and a USB stick?

I come from the old console hacking days where you needed an exploitable game or hardware mod to hack your console. wondering if it's the case for PS3. Seeing alot of old "non-working" consoles in my area that I'm willing to pick up for $10-20 if it's easy enough to hack nowadays...

Stay away from super slims. Yes they can install pkgs but no cfw. I have a CECH-2501A and that is the last slim that is downgradable to 3.55.

Use this to check if they can work.

You would only need your pc and a usb. You get it easy and simplified lol

Either get a fat if you can find one for really cheap, you are garenteed a hackable model that way.Or get a 2000 slim specificly. 2500 models can be a bit of a gamble.Avoid the 3000 slim and the super slim at all costs for jailbreaking.

As for resorces,You don't really need much other than the latest rebug update and ps3xploit.com.

If you buy a fat though you need to be aware of the model number. The model number determans if your console is a nand or a nor which is what you need to flash if your consoles current firmware is above 3.55 or 3.56.If you buy a slim then they are all nor.

@Biff627,

Good job tutorial. But don't use PSNinja v4. That PSNinja has been outdated and abandoned.

I've been using PSN main account with purchased never got banned in almost 4 years ago. Never used cheat/mods, but you can use trophy/trophies getting platinum unlocker must have real-time random then you won't be banned, but that you can get banned for all times same in trophies or fake times.

-1 Also, PSN Auto Sign In is not recommended, they can ban your PSN Account and Console ID, PSID. You will need change to "Auto Sign-In: Off"

Before I have played PS3 CFW to safe online? Here,
-2 If your PS3 Original CID is banned - read here,
1. You will need to install WebMAN MOD & VSH + PSNPatch for the latest version is highly recommend.
2. First, you have to load the game from webMAN MOD or MultiMAN, But I highly recommend to use webMAN MOD more than MultiMAN, until if load game was successful.
3. Go to PSNPatch make change original CID to your CID Private then exit homebrew.
3. Go to WebMAN MOD - VSH Menu load. How to load for VSH Menu? ("Hold Select for VSH Menu will be load up"), You will see VSH Menu are there a CFW syscall disable + clear history. Enter this one right then you will see pop-up notifications until cleared and CFW Syscall disabled.
4. Now you can log in to PSN then play any games offline or online it doesn't matter. (Make sure every boot same times follow this step by step).

-3 If your PS3 Original CID isn't banned, still safe - read here,
1. You will need to install WebMAN MOD & VSH + PSNPatch for the latest version is highly recommend.

NOTE: DO NOT USE CHEAT/Mod Menu, that you can get banned, they reporting/flagged your username or take a screenshot from your username possibly.
Also, Sony only cares CFW/Cheat/Mod menu at ban risk. If you disabled CFW Syscall, Sony will see your console if is running on OFW Mode and history file then you won't be banned.

Hello guys
So I am using Hen to hack my PS3 Slim and I want to be able to go online every now and then to update my trophies. As I absolutely cannot afford a ban but also really want the option of adding trophies, I would like some opinions on what is fairly safe and what isn't, aswell as what to do in regards to not getting banned. I am well aware that NOTHING in regards to hacking is totally safe, but here goes:

So far, I have installed Hen, a couple of homebrews, aswell as 2 PS2 games. I haven't been connected to PSN since I hacked it (was online during the time of hacking unfortunately, but offline for anything after that). I REALLY want to install a PS3 game and IF I can, play online in that game. But I will completely disregard online if that is too risky. I just need to be able to sync my trophies.

I have looked at PSNinja aswell as PSNPatch as a couple of ways to keep my account ban-free. But it looks like PSNinja is now obsolete and I can't figure out if PSNPatch is only really helpful for people running actual CFW.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

It seems that the formatting on this post is very broken.... I completely forgot about this guide tbh
I no longer own a jailbreakable ps3 so Im not sure if I have the right to update this without being able to test it myself.

It's because it's easier than you think. Just don't run any homebrew online and don't cheat. CFW and webman are undetectable.

What you do offline they don't know. So what I do is just change one value in the dns setting back and forth to have internet or not while always connected be on my local network.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
