What's the difference between HDLoader and HDAdvance and which one is better?

HDLoader is free. HDAdvance basically jacked the HDLoader code.

Free = better.

Then again, you can probably find some sort of copy or elf of HDAdvance.

Is the softmod region-specific (meaning U.S. systems can only play U.S. games) or can someone play NTSC-J games as well (so that I can get this set up and play Namco x Capcom)?

Hey I don't have ANY cheat disc, and no one in my area has a PS2 cheat disc, so can I do this with a PS1 trigger disc?

using ESR, it's region free... since you have to patch the disc... I don't know if that's what makes it region free or not, but my wife's playing Karaoke Revolution JPop Vol.1 right now (Japanese game) on our US PS2

HDAdvance is a reskinned HDLoader 0.7c. The only advantage to having a copy is if it's the pressed retail disc as it will boot in an unmodded PS2. Otherwise it's redundant due to updates in the compatibility list.

Nguman - Using a a PS1 trigger disc would mean that you have the exploit set up already. If all you want to do is to switch from the Independence Exploit to Free McBoot then you'll just need to get to Ulaunch or Keylauncher (whichever you have set up) and start the FMCB app. Otherwise on a standard PS2 a PS1 trigger disc is merely a PS1 game.

The problem with third party memory cards is their reliability. A third party 8mb card *should* be fine, but if at all possible i'd go with an Official one as soon as you get the chance to avoid issues cropping up at a later date.

I'm not sure that softmod works on PS2 slimlines....I tried to run FREE_MCBOOT.ELF through AR Max's Max Media Player and nothing happened! I then tried the PS1 save exploit method and still nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

I fixed the ChipIn link

Quick PS2 softmod question?

WHY NOT JUST GET SWAPDISC?! ...kidding...

Really though, I have a dexdrive floating around my place somewhere. That was the USB drive that has a PS memory card slot in the front to put saved games onto PS memory cads before the advent of memory cards w/ built in USB ports.

I was wondering if there would be some any way to softmod my ps2 using the dexdrive to put an exploit onto a memcard rather than needing to use an AR or anything.

I have a usb stick, a dex drive, and memory cards... and i was hoping that i could do this w/out purchasing anything extra heh.

Just a thought (hope?).

Thanks guys, lemme know what you find out

You might be able too.

You have a fat PS2, right?

If you can do the independence exploit thingy, put in on the PS1 MC and move it to the PS2 MC then install FREE_MC_BOOT with ESR (just use my pack in the guide). It might work, I don't really know. I'm guessing here.

All right, so I have an Action Replay Max(the one with the usb support) and not an evo, but I have slimline, is it still possible for me to softmod it?

ok so thanks Xist, I went out and bought a.. Action Replay Max.. and now I'm in the same boat as Seokotsu except for that fact that I have a fat ps2, and that my exploit_save.max file isn't executing.

If I got a modchip on my PS2, will it allow me to have the same features that FreeMCBoot does, like put .ELF's on the PS2 for additional programs on it?
