OK, so I can try the normal method and if that doesn't work, I can use my phat to make the memory card modded. But if Iwere to the latter, what would happen when to put FMCB install on my USB? Have there been problems with slims reading the /mass in uLE?

NOPE! Zero ways of fixing that.

Why not install it on your memory card

? Once's its on the memory card both phat's and slim's can use it.

* What software do I use to burn/rip my games?
Use ImgBurn.

* Is there a guide for ripping/burning?
Yes. It's here. (It uses a different software but it doesn't matter.)

* Whatever I don't need a guide. Now let me get to my burning...
Wait! Before you burn the disk you need to patch it! Use this.
Also, if you know how, burn at 2.4x.

I'm using Imation DVD-R's, and they're not showing up on imageburn. do only some DVD-R's work with it?

When I tried installing it, I couldn't make it work, even on my phat PS2. I mad to separately run it via USB.

I have found a tutorial on another website that says you can play burned PS1 games on a slim PS2 V9 or higher doing this by burning a DVD with all the burned game loader files

Step1: Make sure the Playstation 2 recognizes that you opened the disc cover, then put the disc in and block off the sensor (a good way to do this is by putting a piece of tissue where the sensor is)
Step2: When the disc stops spinning, swap with backup or import and make sure the sensor is still being held down
Step3: Press X to launch your game

Does this work? Can anyone confirm?

I believe I already posted the method of how to play PSX backups. That method won't work, in PSX mode it's going to look for CD.

To play PSX backups on any version PS2 version above 7 (any version 7 or below will need a gameshark lite):

1. Start up the PS2 with no disc in and go to the PS2 browser (where you view the memory card).
2. Put in a original PS1 game, you'll see the a selectable black disc, highlight the disc.
3. Use a swap method. On the fats after v7, you can use a tool (make sure to slide the peg back into place). On the slims, you can use the sensor blocking methods (the disc will still be spinning, so caution is needed).
5. Load the game.

just wanna ask,
can i do this on my modded PS2 (7xxxx)??

It's already modded? If you've got SwapMagic it would be even easier to install, but you'd have to say for sure how it's modded.

Also how do you burn a CD-based game using Imgburn? I would assume it's the same as a DVD, but using a CD-R. I've been wrong before though...

*Edit* one other small hiccup.

Now when I burn, ImgBurn creates a .mds and a .i00 and .i01 file. all I've found is that this is done to fit it under 4 gigs, but I have no clue how to get them to an ISO so I can ESR patch. Anyone else have this problem?

Slim's just can't use it, get a fat one if you really want HDL.

Slim's can use HDL if you're prepared to do a little soldering...HD-Combo is what you'd need.

I also would like to know to burn CD-Rs via ImgBurn. I've been wanting to play ICO.

This is hd combo

http://www.hdcombo.com/cgi-bin/hdcombo/site.pl?page=images

It's a case with a space for the hdd + all the necessary bits you need to connect the hdd up.
Only fits v12 and v13 slim pstwo though and lots of soldering , install points

weird it looks like a PHAT ps2 with a SLIM flip top lid and SLIM top half of casing lol
smile.gif

seems like a LOT of hassle and time just to get HD loader working ..maby would be faster to just pick up a second hand/pre owned PHAT ps2 if your not technically minded
