I'm sorry, but I didn't read all the posts. I wanted to focus on your third question (I'm sorry if this has been answered), but my ps3 tutorials explain how to grab your ps2 saves from your ps2 to the ps3. <looks at time of post> oops. ;)

PS2 backups of different regions (i.e. EU, JP) don't detect a memory card on my PS3. PSX backups don't have that issue. But yeah, the PS2 compatibility is kind of disappointing. Tried Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection, which has huge frame rate issues during gameplay and can even permanently freeze frame.

How does the configs work? I want to get Battle Front II running. It loads the first stage then it crashes.
ok so try to find the title ID of your game: (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ps2+battlefront+2+title+id) and search for that config in this reposatory:https://github.com/Zarh/Get_CONFIG/tree/master/soft/files

then you name the config the same as your ISO and put it in the same folder where your iso is. For example "Mafia.iso.CONFIG".

if you can't find it then make a config file and try to load it from there

Thats what I did and it crashes still. And I made sure to keep the .iso.CONFIG fully intact in the naming.

np, finally got Dawn of Mana to work fine 100%,
my copy of the game was bad /patched with ESR,
found a clean copy and renamed the iso,
dawn of mana.iso as the .ISO.CONFIG (in all caps to match).
