I've been out of the loop for a while when it comes to anything regarding the triple so I've come to ask the gbatemp community
"Is there anyway to play ps2 backups on a ps3 (backwards compatible) without actually opening it?"
I have Swap Magic version 3.6 (USA)

P.S. Yes I have googled it but for the most part all I see are posts from 2006-2007...

It's against the rules to type in a different language.

If you don't care then why did you bring it up ?

Because rules are rules, and are there not to be broken.

There are no current or upcoming PS3 Modchips as of yet.

Well he linked me to a site in Spanish, I don't know how well he speaks english. I'm not going to not take advantage of a situation just because someone tells me not to. People speak in different languages on this site all the time.

here is a nice website. They tell you how to play ps2 backups on a ps3 that has the emotion chip in it. So you have to be able to play ps2 games to play ps2 backups...

I have the 80gb that is backwards compatible.

Sorry buddy, you are out of luck. 80gb is not backward compatible with ps2 games. You are not able to play ps2 games or ps2 backups for that matter...

Well maybe you can use a translator to translate the page to english?

wat
Google Translate.

And some 80GB Models have the BC feature.

The 80GB that have BC feature only have software emulation. That will not work with this.
I don't know if his statement is correct or not but if so, you're out of luck i'm afraid.

This is taken straight from the guide...

"What you need:

* Swap Magic 3.6+/3.8 (Must be an original, burned copies do NOT work).
* Launch PS3 (20/60gb) - NTSC/Japanese (Must have emotion engine, only launch PS3’s had this).
* Flash Drive (or PSP in USB MODE will also work)."

Wrong.. its not only software emulation, if it was ALL PS3s would play PS2 games. The 80GB 4 USB port BC PS3 has the GS (Graphics Synthesizer) while it does not have the EE. Its not fully software emulated.

You're wrong again. The 80GB 4 USB Port BC PS3 does play PS2 games. I've played Killzone (1) on mine a long time ago before.

EDIT: Oh and this guide says it works on the NTSC 80GB PS3 (that are BC of course).

When I get to the part where I need to set up the USB extreme game installer, it doesn't give me the option to select my flash drive. Just C and D
