There will be an announcement regarding the release date. So far I don't think there haven't been any official announcements yet. You should check out sites like Gamefaqs to keep yourself updated on these kind of info.

I guess if it makes good sales in the west they will most likely get it over here

Hasn't been announced yet.

I'm waiting for it as well, and number 3 is scheduled to be released in Japan soon enough I've heard.

If you haven't played it yet, play Touch Detective to tie you off until Layton 2 (Or to help with), if you haven't played both yet.

It hasn't been totally officially confirmed, but the inclusion of a password system that needs a password from the next game and the success of the game in the West is all the proof needed that this is coming. Or at least if you ask me.

I shouldn't think it will take that long to reach the US, though this is a particularly heavy text-based game. I'm hoping before the end of the year or early next year.

Oh, and forgive me for popping a n00b question, but I've forgotten when E3 is! So when is it?

July 15-17.

Did this game sell well? I hope there's a sequel to it, easily my favourite DS game.

The puzzles are a bit different in the Japanese version anyhow (A good deal of them) so like the first one you'll probably end up playnig both even if you DID play the Japanese version, just because the extra puzzles make it more fun.

This is a text heavy game, meaning the story and dialogue will need to be translated.
Also, some puzzles will no doubt need to be renovated so that they make sense for Americans.
And if there's gonna be voice acting, they will need to rehire the actors.

Lastly, I don't even think Layton sold that well in the U.S.

I heard it sold fairly decently, but hell if I know, not like it was released 'that' long ago anyhow, so yea giving them at least 9 months or so for number 2 would be fair.

Probably the first DS game I completed along with Draglade.

Game's awesome.
Excellent plot twist in the storyline. I honestly, didn't figure that out till at least three quarters into the game when they revealed it.

I did find it quite intriguing how all of the townspeople kept wanting to make me solve puzzles and not do it themselves. Don't they know part of the joy acquired is through solving it themselves?

IGN said something regarding the sequel if my memory serves me well.
