Hacking problem with R4i sdhc unlimited upgradable

Hi guys
I am having a problem and been all over google and didnt find anything.
I have R4i SDHC .hk, unlimited upgradable. It was not working on 3DS. So I went to the official website and downloaded the update package. There were 2 files, update (a dat file) and update_dsi1.44_3DS4.1.0.8.nds
I placed both on memory stick, then inserted memory stick into R4i and inserted R4i into my DS lite.
Then I went to games and ran something called TTW TTDS Flash writer...or something like that, I dont remember the exact name. Then it started loading 1% 2%
it went all the way to 100% and asked me to restart DS. I restarted and the Game icon changed to Deep Labyrinth Digital Bros.
But now when I turn on the DS lite and tap the game icon to go to the R4i menu, all I get is a blank screen.
Did I do the update wrong?
How do I update the R4i unlimited upgradable so that it can be used on the latest 3DS firmware?

You may need the new software/kernel on the site in addition to the upgrade.

I did download the newest firmware (tried both English and Chinese simplified). no luck.

The update file you mention looks to be the right update file, did you put it on the root of the microSD?

As you say you ran something from your games folder.

yes, I put it on root. there was no games folder.

I put 2 files on the root: update (a dat file) and update_dsi1.44_3DS4.1.0.8.nds

Then I inserted the R4i into my ds lite and went to the yellow and pink faces (the very left one)
Then I saw a rectangle with the words TTW TTDS Flash writer inside it. I tapped on it, and I think it started 1% 2% went all the way to 100% and I believe it said restart you DS, which I did by sliding the power button, I am not sure if there is another way that it should have been restarted.
I had no insructions, I just did everything by intuition and no idea which step I did wrong.
I had no games folder, everything was on root.

tbh, i don't know what you have done exactly, it's the TTW TTDS Flash writer that i am lost with.

Are you able to run the update file again? If not i don't know what to suggest.

hi,

got quasi the same problem , this update work on 3DS but not on DSL.... so i downgrade to 3.0.0.6....try with the latest 4.2.0.9

i think "TTW TTDS flash writer ver.1.0" is a modified version of DSTT flash writer 0.5.....
