i was about to downgrade boot1, luckily i realized that it was a bad idea
Very much so. And just in-case I DID brick boot1 or any other system modules on my console, then I can boot into a recovery disc on my chipped Wii, or use my Infectus to restore the NAND as a last resort.

Probably not, unless some bricker out there clears boot2 (where Bootmii resides - easily fixed with NAND backup and reprogrammer) and/or the SEEPROM (irreversible).

Micro-soldering and specialized external hardware? That is supposed to be easy?
For most average users overwriting boot1 (or if this is somehow protected boot2) makes the Wii a goner
